Interview & Indian Passport expiry

Hello all :

My Indian passport expires April 1st. My interview date for US Citizenship is 2/23. I am thinking of not renewing my Indian passport, attend the interview and then apply for the US Passport.

If I still dont get my oath ceremony date, after April 1st. What status/nationality I am. If I have to travel out of the country how would I do that after April 1st ?

I am tempted to apply for new Indian passport now, but I am very scared that I wont get the passposrt back before my interview date of 2/23.

Any pointers or suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks
Thiaga

all i know is you won't be a US citizen until you go thru the oath. you will still be the nationality of whatever you have now.

you have to renew your current passport if you are not US citizen and do not get the US passport by April 1st.

if i were you, i would renew the passport now. it might sound stupid to waste of $$. however, you will never know if you would get the oath soon, on the same day, or name check gets stuck.

your assumption seems based on your name check would have been clearned prior the interview.

I posted this before, but didn't get a response. I would appreciate any feedback on that.

I legally changed my name in US when I was a minor. My new name is on my greencard, dmv, social security ... every US document except my Indian passport. Do I need to change it on my Indian passport or just court order will be sufficient?

Thanks.

If you renew your passport after it expires, you will have to submit extra documents (affidavit) etc...

You have plenty of time to apply and get your new passport. You can apply for renewal within 6 months before passport expiration date. If you are close to any Indian consulate, then its matter of 2-3 days to get your new passport. I don't know about applying through mail.
