Hello All

THIS HAPPENED TO ME TODAY.

Some one my name XXXXX called me and claimed himself as an INS officer. We want to interview you on your adjustment status Application. Can you tell when you will be free next week? I told them I am free next week. Then He asked details about me. After that You need to bring Photo ID, copy of SSN, Passport, I-94 etc and he was also asking me about who are staying with you. (Actually my parents are with me right now?). While this was happenning. How long are they here? and all other questions. He fired questions at me as though he knows my history(Including where I work (Client) and all other stuff). While this conversation was going on, he changed his stance and told that he would like to come to my home immediately (within 1/2 hour) and asked me to open the door when he knocks. He told that he will be accompanied by some one (told his name).

In the meantime I called my company (based in CA) and they called my attorney and all other stuff. All these things happened in minutes. I got phone all round the place. One from the HR department of my company , one from my attoney, one from my Recruited and all other stuff. They asked me not to panic. They told that 90% it will be a hoax. I waited for 1/2 hour. No one came. Waited for 1 hour still no one came. It turned out to be a hoax for real.

I dont know why people have such cruel mentality to do such mean things?

Please be aware of these things.

1) Anything by phone don\'t accept. INS will always send the notification through regular mail.
2) There are people with cruel mentallity.

Do you have a caller Id? Most likely it is...

somebody who works with you. Or it could be a "friend" who was playing a prank on you. If the caller knew specific details about your client and yourself it has got to be somebody you spend a lot of time with/around. It may be somebody in an adjacent cube/s who could have overheard you discussing your case with employer/attorney/family/friends. If you had a caller Id facility you could pin this SOB down. Do you? What did the caller sound like? If you can place his accent that will help you narrow down the possible list of suspects.
Do not by any means discuss this with your co-workers. If indeed it was a co-worker you do not want to give him the pleasure of hearing about your anxiety and pain. Chances are that that person will try and find out what effect that call had on you. Those efforts may expose him.

I can guarantee you it was not INS. Even though they have your number from the application they would not call you. Most definitely they will never pay you a visit for reasons of interview.

No Title

Thank you very much for your words (of wisdom). I have caller ID but unfortunately this happened while i was in a different line and I could not track this Idiot. Also I got another incomming call while i was talking to him. I was really nervous for 1/2 hour even though I did not do anything wrong anytime.
