Hello everybody,
As I have read this forum since more than a year now, I thought I would also contribute and share my experience. Our appointment was originally scheduled on 4th of July, but as we wanted to get married first, we delayed the interview to the 30th of July. We got married only 3 weeks before the interview appointment (he was the principal applicant) and we immediately sent the updated forms to the embassy (we have not contacted KCC at all). We went for medical examination 2 days before the interview. I had no proof of vaccination and so on, as I lost my medical file few years ago...but the doctor said it was fine ! (no need to check!). We got the results the day after.
On the day of the interview, we went to the embassy at 7.45 am for an appointment at 8 am. About 10 persons were waiting. At 8.30, we were called to give our documents and pay our fees. It took maybe 10/15 minutes. Then we waited for about 45 min before to be called to the window by a young lady for interview. The interview itself lasted less than 5 minutes ! Only 3 questions:
- When did you get married ?
- How did you meet your wife ?
- What both of you have you done in the US ? (We worked in NYC for 1 year)
That`s it. No bank statement, no proof of our relationship...nothing.
Then she said they want us to go in the US but there was several problem with our case. First, she needed a clearance check for me, and then there was the worlwide problem for printing visa. She said we should delay our flight back to New Caledonia for 1 week and wait for them to call us. So we did.
2 days later (1st of August), they called us saying there was another problem. As we delayed our appointment, our allocated visas were back to KCC and given to someone else ! They needed to contact Washington (not sure what for ??). Our situation seemed completely lost at that time but the very nice CO said she will do everything possible to get visas for us and she kept us updated almost everyday. On the 7th of August, suddenly everything resolved and they happily called us to inform us to come back to the embassy and pick up our passports..with visas !
Once at the embassy, they told us we were very very lucky as they got for us the 2 last visas for Europe (I guess she was talking about specific cases, not for people that are waiting their interview).
At that time, we are very thankful for all these wonderful people working at Suva embassy, as they did their best to help us.
End of the story: You can get married just before the interview....but never ever postpone the interview !
Thank you everyone for being so helpful with my complicated case !
