I am always reading comments from other membres on this forum, but today I would like to take opportunity to share my wife's interview experince for citizenship.
Below is her N-400 timeline

10/12/05: RD
10/12/05: PD
11/25/05: FP Appointment
02/13/06: Interview notice
04/25/06: Interview Appointment
04/25/06: US citizen since 5:45

We reached at INS office at 1:30 pm. Her interview was scheduled at 2:06. At 2:15 she was called in for interview. Interview was done in 10 minutes. In the begining interviewer (female) reviewed the detail on the form and asked the questions, than asked for signatures and than she started the Civic and History test. She asked 9 questions (even my wife answred all questions right). Following are the questions.

1- Who signs bills into law?
2- Name two senetors?
3- Can the constitution be changed?
4- Who wrote the Star-Spangled Banner?
5- What did the Emancipation Proclamation do?
6- What is the Bill Of Rights?
7- In what year Constitution was written?
8- Name the three branches of the Government?
9- What is the duty of Supreme Court?

Than she told my wife to write a sentence. And that was it. Interviewer told my wife that you have the passed the test. She wrote one form and told my wife that she may go to second floor at cafetaria and come back at 3:30 for oath at 4 O'Clock. Since there were about 100 people and they were calling everyone for sign and review the information on the certifiacte, the oath ceremony was started at 5:30 and it lasted for 15 minutes.

According to my wife, interviewer was little rude (may be interviewer was tired) but since the case was clear, every thing went right. I will thank god and thanks to all the members of this Forum for helping us to end the journey with happyness :). Good luck to everyone.

Ditto

Got naturalised today at Newark, NJ as well.
My interview was scheduled at 1:00 and I got there at 12:50 pm.
I was called in at 1:30 pm and the interview lasted 7 minutes. The interviewer was very courteous. He verified that the information in the form was correct. Asked me to sign the name change form (since I had request a name change). Asked the 6 history/civics questions, all of which I answered correctly and handed me the approval notice and told me to show up at 3:00 pm for the Oath.
I was not asked for any documentation whatsoever.

I came back from the cafeteria at 2:45. I was the first person to be called to sign the certificate at 3:30 pm and the oath was from 5:30 to 5:45 pm :)

Already got my driver's license and car and motorcycle registrations changed to the new name. Will be applying for a passport in a day or two.

Yippee !

CONGRATULATIONS VASU!!!!!!!!!!!

Just curious, were you able to change your name to something new or you had to change it because of that marriage thing.

Do you still need to follow legal proceedings to make it completely legal. Thanks

Do you have any traffic tickets? If you do, did you report them on N-400 and did the officer ask about the tickets during the interview?

Naturalization and Name Change - How does it works?

What are the benefits when someone proceeded for a name change on his/her naturalization?
Would name change, can change ONLY the lastNAME or the firstNAME? or BOTH?
What are the advantages?
What are the disadvantages?
How would you present (when applying a new job) your Diploma, Transcript of Records, Certificates and other documents to carry it over using your 'new name'?
How would this affect your a) credit histories b) Loans?

Shortened first name and changed last name
advantage of doing this with N-400 is less work - going to court afterwards to change name will take a couple months and lots of paperwork.

now, i need to change name for all accounts - bank, credit card, mtge etc ..., SS card, drivers license , .....

as for the foreseeable future i can imagine having to attach a copy of the name change certification with any document that has the old name

cheers,
vasu

Yes, had about 8 traffic tickets which I'd mentioned in an atachment to the N-400.
officer stated that none of those could be a cause for denial, with a smile.
mostly speeding tickets

Strangely, I was not asked for a single original document !

Cheers
Vasu

Anand74,

Have you heard anything yet on your duplicate A # file ?

Can you tell me how to call local INS NewArk Office to check status ?

From Vasu's experience does not look like its the black and golden hair.

thanks

I am yet to file mine - will be doing so in July. I am a regular reader on the Newark thread and since Deer had the same situation as mine, I was interested in the Dual A# number scenario.
I guess Infopass is the only option as otherwise we get 1 million different answers for our question depending on who we speak to.

Did you go to the black lady with golden hair or somebody else.
Thanks.

Yes, black lady with golden hair who took the interview. I am just wondring why did you ask this question?

Nope - It was a young Caucasian male - maybe in his late 20s with a little goatee (just the beard part). Very courteous and professional

I'd been following the Newark thread for quite a while. This lady is having the reputation for being rude. One user had problems with his Traffic Tickets issue and another had dual A file. Good that ur wife passed the interview.

Thanks for the info.

Anand,

You are right. This lady was rude. But since my wife's case was straight, that lady had no option except approving the application even she tried to find mistakes (wrong answers) in the test. I would say if the end is good every thing is good (Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar) :)

N-400 name change and oath

I am preparing my N-400 form. I would like to change my name in the natz. process.

I would like to know Newark administers Oath on the same day even for cases with a name change?
Is this always true in Newark? If there is no other problem, will they let you take the oath on the same day even if you are changing your name?

Thanks,
Ramu
