Reached the Kansas City office around 10:30. Took a few minutes to organize the files for me and my wife. Got in around 10:40, placed the interview letters in a black box as was advised by the security guard.
I was called in exactly at 11:00AM by a nice looking young lady. She greeted me and asked me to follow her to her office. Upon entering her office, she asked me to put my stuff on the desk and remain standing so I can raise my hand and agree to tell truth under oath. After the oath, we sat down and she explained me the reason why I am being interviewed and that she would test me in Civics and English. The only document she asked me was my Green Card.
Then she quickly went through the following questions (not in any order, I can’t remember the sixth one though):
What does the President’s Cabinet do?
If both the President and the Vice President can no longer serve, who becomes President?
How many justices are on the Supreme Court? ( I almost said 27, but then quickly corrected myself and said 9)
What did the Declaration of Independence do?
We elect a U.S. Senator for how many years?
Then she asked me to read “The President lives in the White house”, and asked me to write “Mexico is on the south of United States”.
Then she said that I had passed the test and now she would go through my application, she went over every single line of my application. During this she advised me that I should file a N-600 for my son after we get the Naturalization certificates at the oath. While going over the spouse section, she asked me if she had applied and when was her interview. I said that she was waiting outside to be called in as we were scheduled at the same time. She then wrote a sticky note advising us to be scheduled for the oath at the same day and stapled it on my file. Then we went over the yes/no section and I mentioned about a speeding ticket that I had back in 2003. She asked if it was paid and If I had any more. I said “No, that was the only one”. Finally she congratulated me and said that my case was approved and I should be getting an oath letter shortly. I think the whole process took about 15 minutes.
Meanwhile, my wife had been called in, looks like her interviewer was in a hurry. Asked her six questions, reading/writing, went over the yes/no questions. Asked her if she was arrested for a speeding ticket. Told her she was approved. I think her interview did not take even five minutes.
All-in-all, it was a pleasant experience. I would seriously advice all the members here that if yours is a 5 year based case and no serious criminal charges, you have nothing to worry about. Just study for the test and take it easy. In fact I spent entire Sunday at the Arrowhead stadium watching Chiefs kick some Steelers’ butt
