Hi,
I filed for my parents GC (AOS) in early March. Currently they're in the US as well. They just got an interview letter for late May in San Francisco. PLEASE SHARE YOUR EXPERIENCES RE PARENTS' INTERVIEW FOR GC (AOS).

Other Qs:
1) I was wondering if its common for parents to get interviewed for GC. What're the kind of Qs the officer will ask?
2) Can I go with them for the interview?
3) Their interview time slots are like 11.10am and 11.40am, so is there a chance that they will be interviewed together or not at all?

fyi: My parents have had 10-yr visitor visa which is expiring in May. They have come several times to the US.

Thanks a lot...

I don't understand the feeling that one needs to prepare parents for an interview. The most important thing is for them to be comfortable and confident which IMO means the best thing to tell them is to tell the truth and not try to embellish an answer to make it seem better than it really is. THE IO's perception that someone is trying to be deceptive or less than honest is more likely to cause a problem than the phrasing of the answer itself. If you parents are like my mother was, the concern about remembering a "right" answer would be far more of an issue than her giving the answer in her own words. Remember, in spite of what some say, the officer's job is not to deny valid cases. Any interview is stressful; your hovering will make them more nervous.

If you feel they need assistance at the interview or have an issue that might be a problem in their background that would create a problem in the GC interview, find them an attorney. Let the attorney advise them.

Hi Vivek
My mother had her interview last month-- The only concern officer had was that why we decided to file her AOS now and not few years back-she has been visiting us every year since 2000. I was honest and told her the truth that me and my wife both are doctors and that my mother is getting old and has some health issues which we can handle here if she stayed with us she was more than satisfied with the answer.
The main reason she was called for interview was that despite doing finger printinf twice they were not able to read the prints--she has arthiritis so they needed a police clearance certificate.
If your parents had issues with the finger printing that I would suggest getting police clearance from your township since USCIS donot issue these letters.
I had to take her back once again in two days after her original interview with the clearance letter and got her passport stamped.
In nut shell it is really a piece of cake as long as your are honest and truthful
all the best

Hi all,
just wanted to share the GC interview experience of my parents this month (filed for AOS in San Francisco). Even though the apptmt times were 30min apart, both were called in together. The IO was very nice and cooperative. The first thing he asked was where your son (sponsor) was. My parents said he is at work, IO didnt ask any further, but I think it might be a good idea for the sponsor to go as well.

Then, he went over the forms first for Mom and then Dad. He asked for Drivers License of both (my parents have had DL). He asked for Adv Parole docs to be returned. More Qs he asked were:
then he asked what is your son doing and where is he. he asked date of birth my son and his designation and his marriage date also.
-how many times did you get married. how many children do you have.
-any other children beyond this marriage.
-the phone # given in the form- he asked if it is cell or home phone.
-Do you work?
-he asked for date of birth and date of birth of the spouse.
-he asked few questions of I-485--- have you ever been arrested--- been member of any org etc.etc?
-He asked if we had infulenza shot in the medical checkup. My Mom said said no bec. it was not available and doctor said that he will write in the form that it was not available then.
-do you have SSN #?
-he asked for date of marriage.

Then, he gave form G-325-A to be filled up. We had not submitted this w/ the app (we didnt know). This form asks for last 5 yrs of work and residence history, so pl remember all the dates. IO actually helped them fill the form.

The interview lasted 25min total for both. IO was very cordial. He finally gave the approval form.

Hope this helps, good luck!
