Interview before fingerprints

Maybe this should be under NYC timeline, but here it goes.

I was scheduled for a citizenship interview before I was scheduled for fingerprints. I went to the interview and conducted it. Then I was given a date for fingerprints for a few weeks later. I was told that I would receive an answer shortly after my fingerprints were sent in. The interview was in early July and the fingerprints were done in early August.

I have not heard anything since. Calling the information line or checking the status of my case online produced no results.

My questions are: Is this usual? Is there anything I can do? How can I find out about the status of this case?

Thank you very much for your help. I really appreciate it because this has left me hanging for so long.

Never heard of interview before finger printing. Back to you point, to get a status update, I would recommend taking an Infopass appointment.

If you get processed in a way that defies the USCIS's normal ordering, you risk getting pushed aside into the "well, we'll deal with this guy when we get to him" pile.

My advice:

1) Take an InfoPass and a handle on your full status (is the fingerprint check complete, is the name check complete, is there anything in the way of me getting an oath letter).

2) If there are no impediments, ask the officer when you would expect to get an oath letter. If he/she give you a bland answer, ask if she/he can get better information (I had an officer fetch the paper copy of my file during an InfoPass once - it took only 20 minutes (she processed two other applicants during that time and then called me back up)).

3) Once that time has passed (or if the timeframe you are given is something like 3-6 months, round that to about 6 weeks), invoke the congressman/senator card - call you congressman's and/or one or both senators' offices and ask to speak to the immigration aid. Be very pleasant, and explain your exact situation. Maybe one of them can help

Good luck

By the way, you should post your time line - I'm very interested in seeing it, and I'm sure others are.

Hi all, I wanted to let you know how my case went (though it's been a while since this all started).

I followed advice 1) and 2) from Flydog's post and even got to speak to a supervisor once, but still no dice. I actually went there three times with an InfoPass appointment and was told to just wait for an answer. One of the officers said that she could see no impediments to my case. Another told me that it had not been a year since my interview, so "just wait."

I then moved to 3). It helped! My Congresswoman, Maloney, (14th of NY) has a very good immigration aid. Victor was helpful and quick. A letter was sent from the office to immigration. The reply a couple of weeks later promised an answer soon. A few more weeks later I got an oath ceremony letter. All in all, from the moment I went to the office to the oath letter it took about two months.

Thank you very much for your advice. Maybe this can be of help to others as well.
