If your interview is early that morning, I understand that you can ask the IO if they can accomodate you for the afternoon oath ceremony. If your interview is in the afternoon, I have heard of cases where people were asked if they can come the next day for the noon ceremony. It is possible things have changed a little bit, but it won't hurt to ask. Good luck to you. What is your timeline? It seems the DO in Fairfax has improved significantly since they arrested the former Director who was selling naturalization certificate to chinese illegal immigrants for $20k.

20K for citizenship cert hahah!! what a steal. So far my timeline is like everyone else, got notice pretty quick and FP as well. Walk in FP a few days before the schd date thinking that might buy me a day or two. Called FBI notified that prints were sent back to USCIS the next day (does that mean the name check cleared?) now waiting on IL, hope to get that soon.

No that doesn't mean your name cleared I had the same questions and it was a NO the name check is done separate from the fingerprinting and it takes from 2 weeks to ? but is usually happening pretty quick for what I've seen lately.

No joke, I am serious on this one. I am trying to find the article on this particular issue. I will attach the link once I pull it up. It was a major scandal. The guy was about 57yrs and federal govt ripped his nuts out...:)

Wow that's insane! Im going to "google it" HAHAHA

I think the number of DOs where same-day oaths are available is pretty small, and I'd suggest trying to inquire at the particular DO in advance, even before the interview.

Also, even within the same DO, whether or not same day oath is available may depend on where exactly in that district you live. If the federal district court in your area has asserted its jurisdiction over naturalization oaths (they do have that right), then only judicial naturalization oaths are available for people living in that area, and scheduling of such oaths generally takes longer compared to the oaths administered by USCIS itself.

Yes, once it is cleared then USCIS will send your file to the local office and you will schedule for a grilling cheese burger interview with the IO. However, you bring your condiments, passport, govt issued ID and a mayo + horse radish, plus a strawberry passion fruit for two. Once you pass the interview, be schedule for an oath or be offered the opportunity to same day oath if your office offers one. I am still waiting for you to tell us why other DO's have same day interview and oath whereas others don't... :D It is your homework for this week. :)

No need to google it, I have attached the link in my earlier posting. There were a couple of articles which appeared in the Washington Post on consecutive days, which showed what the federal govt did to his pension, assets and other slew of valuables a punishment for selling US citizenship to chinese immigrants... In addition to losing his nuts, they sold his house and took away his federal pension, and was sentence I believe to about 25 years in federal prison...:D

In DC, it seems as if the immigration scams are lucrative business. See this article which appeared today in the Washington Post. A Pakistani national killed in a greencard marriage scam, which involved paying an American woman $500 per week to marry the brother who had overstayed him visa. The man was eventually killed after he stopped paying the woman, because she refused to do GC paperwork, but she demanded additional money... Here is an article from today's paper on another immigration fraud...

Weird Al,
See, I had mentioned sometime back to you that several Asians are involved in marriage scams - you didnt believe me...

I have had some good Vietnamese friends and they HAVE told me of several cases where people get trafficed "legally" through marriage.

All those Nail shops that are run by Asians you see, be very skeptical of people working if their English is very shaky.

I think USCIS and LE need to find creative ways to find those marriage frauds.

There was an article in USATODAY that its a huge buisness raking lot of "illegals"

Al, I know you will like this story... Tenderloin Chinese Marriage Immigration Scam Broker Sentenced
woman who arranged fraudulent marriages between Chinese nationals and American citizens for immigration benefits through her San Francisco business was sentenced in federal court today to 19 months in prison.

Kwan Tsoi, also known as Joyce Cai, carried out the operation from her business in the city's Tenderloin District, brokering marriages so that Chinese citizens could obtain their green cards, according to federal prosecutors. She also admitted assisting with paperwork requesting green cards for her clients.

U.S. District Court Judge William Alsup also ordered Tsoi to forfeit $250,000 in proceeds for these marriages, and serve three years of supervised release.

Court records show that Tsoi admitted brokering nine such marriages between February 2007 and February 2008. She advertised in Chinese-language newspapers and charged approximately $30,000 for her services.

In April she pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy, six counts of marriage fraud and five counts of making false statements on immigration documents.

In a statement, U.S. Attorney Joseph Russoniello said that any violation of immigration law is taken seriously, but that his office is "especially aggressive in identifying and prosecuting those involved in marriage frauds and marriage-related scams."

Two others were also charged for their alleged roles in Tsoi's operation. Henry Navarro has pleaded guilty to a felony count of conspiracy for serving as an official recorded witness in one fake marriage, according to prosecutors. Kelly Ecker has pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor conspiracy charge for marrying a Chinese citizen in exchange for $17,000.

She was sentenced to two years' probation and must give a public speech to deter others from participating in fake marriages, according to U.S. Attorney's office.

I remember that I disagreed with your characterization of Asians on immigration fraud. The point I was making and will make is that NOT all of them are involved in the immigration fraud business. I agree with you that all these nail shops harbor a lot of undocumented illegal immigrants. I saw an article in the NY Times about a week ago, in which this African guys had brought these girls from West Africa and were braiding hairs in NJ for hours without seeing a dime from their work. He's facing years in prison and a deportation once he's released from prison.

I mentioned couple of weeks ago that cheap people are damaging this world. The rise in these Asian centered nail shops can be traced to the very core of most people in this country seeking cheap service. I see them all the time in the DC metropolitan area, "Come in: pedicure and manicure $20, plus free eyebrows. I know is free on your butt... I always want to avoid cheap things, because they become expensive in the end. Either by having harmful chemicals in the nail polish, but because people are so out of shape with common sense, they rather pay minimal amount of money on service..:( For example, my basement was done by undocumented immigrants from south of the border, I never hired them, but the previous owner did. So, when I do work in my home, I come across some of the absurb work I have seen in a long time. The work is so shoddy that if I ever saw a contractor do such a shoddy work, I will ensure that his license is revoked and he's not even allowed to walk a dog let alone sit one ..
