Interpreter question

I am applying green card for my mom and was called for an interview. Can I be her interpreter? I noticed someone on the board successfully accompanied parents. Will that be a problem?

Thanks!

There is no any fixed rule/policy on this. It's all up to the individual adjudication officer. Most do allow a sponsor to be also an interpreter, but some don't because of 'conflict of interest' clause. So if other sponsors were allowed to be an interpreter as well then that doesn't mean that you will be allowed too. So it's totally up to you either take someone outside of family setting as an interpreter or take a chance on you to be a sponsor and an interpreter as well. Most of the times (98% of the times) officers do allow a sponsor to be also an interpreter.

It's up to the IO. Some are OK with relatives translating, but some (I do remember a post on that) rescheduled the interview and required to bring "independent" interpreter (because as already mention of the "conflict of interest").

I think I am going to try my luck. worst case they reschedule it, but they won't deny my case, right?
