Hey all,

I used to have health insurance while in college but since I graduated, I'm uninsured. I was wondering if asylees ( and derivative ) are eligible for any health benefits as far as health care ( check ups/doc visits ) or Health insurance is concerned. I'd appreciate if someone could enlighten me on this regard.

you are eligible for the coverage in your first year as an asylee after which you are not. mayb their thinking is that after one year, you should have found a job and able to pay for yourself. hope that helps

Most states have Medicaid or low cost health insurance which you can qualify based on your income. You may want to check that out.

Jojos, how do I apply for one? :S

Mesbahul, yeah I've heard abt it and been checking into it as well. Thanks.

after my asylum approval I went to the office of the refugee resettlement and all that mattered to them was the one year nothing else. they asked for my asylum approval and i94...filled some forms and i had the medicaid for one year. after one year you cant renew coz this time they will run you employment history and stuff...of course I had been working all thru b4 my approval. call your state's offices and find out their policy.
when were you approved for asylum?
