Hi all,
My wife and I aer landed immigrants, landed in Jan 2005 and came back to USA. We had a baby in Nov 2005. Now we have jobs in Canada and are planning to move in May 2006. Could any one give us inforamtion on getting our US born girl to Canada? I understand one needs to apply from within Canada and it takes over 8 months. Should I get her a visa from Canadian consulate? How can I buy health insurance (not travellers insurance). How long does it take for her to get PR?

Finally, I bought a Honda Odessy and I am importing it. Any idea how the customs officer will value it for GST and PST?

Do I need to do a driving test to get Ontario DL?

How bad is insurance costs in toronto?

Thanks in advance for your help

Update

We moved to Canada and at the border my daughter got a 1 year visitor permit. I got her insurance from blucross.ca at $600 for 4 months. I applied for her PR. Its a 2 step process and complicated and takes about 8 months for a child that is 6 months old (Hate Canada for this).

Insurance is 4 times that of Milwaukee. So I sold 1 car.

Bottom line: Think before you come. I will stay here for 3 years and get my citizenship and go back to Toronto, just because I went thru a lot to come here. I will be in USA in 3 years.Love USA :D

Thanks.. But...

Im planning to enter Canada in Oct. Baby will be 5 months then. Does it make any difference in the prcessing time to get her PR Card ?

And also you say you got insurance for only 4 months ? what about after 4 months ? will you renew it till she gets the PR card and then a 3 month waiting period ?

Also my baby needs to get immunization shots in the 6 month. Is that covered by the private insurance ? What all is covered and what is not covered in Canada. you know it is different from US. right ?
And last I bought a new car last year. Previously I had declared only one car which was a Camry at that time. Now I bought another SUV. How do I get that in ? would this new car be treated as an import and do i have to pay lot of taxes ??

Thanks for all ur help

- No.

- Do not worry if you get a job in Canada. You can ask your employer to cover your baby. They do it in most of the cases.

If you are already landed (previously) and now you have a new SUV, you will pay taxes on that SUV. It is an SUV, means it is expensive, means quite a bit of taxes (unfortunately).
