Stage Protest at Vermont ?

Guys,
These INS officials are making a mockery
of our cases.

Its like saying we have updated information and it is .." No
information is available".

I have no idea how much incensed you guys are....but I am
ready to stage a protest in front of the office at
Vermont with placards and cards and banners.

If we gather with a large number, I have no doubts we will
be heard.

Why can't so many of us take a day's leave and stage
a protest in front of their office..? And meet the
commisioner there too ?

If we don't do something that drastic, this I-140, I am sure,
will drag us into another 2 years.

WHAT A SHAME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I posted my message above and what a surprise.. not even
ONE response ?

Hundreds of I-140 waiters at VSC...does nobody have the
honest courage to stand up and say...'Yes, let's put an end
to this..!!!!!!!!!". Not one person ? Not one soul ?

I mean, what does it take ..? Think about it... I am sure the
number of such people is a few thousand..can't a few hundred of
us get together and protest ? Or forget protest.. can't we
travel to DC together and meet the president ?

I am sure submitting a memorandum / petition after
meeting the President / INS commisioner would be not hard
if a few hundred of us can get there ... come on.. is it
that hard................????????????????????????????????

I mean what a shame....all of you keep screaming on this
forum.. firing bullets into the open air... come on guys...
we have a valid reason.. let's do something. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WHAT A SHAME !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What a bunch of ninecompoops ..maybe myself inclusive. !!!!!!!

sumanta

Count me out of your proposal. We have a saying that if you want clean water from a stream never step where the water is coming from. But anyway I wish you a safe journey just be like Jesus who died for everybody.

You don't surprise me at all ...

Your reply is on expected lines though its not very clear
what is the clean water and what's the stream here.

Most people actually lack honest courage. Countless
others like you think of themselves as vassals being ruled
by their masters and lords....again not surprising that
people with white skins whipped your grandfathers for 200 years.

Which is why you think of your GC as some clean water being
served by a stream.......and you think you are more than
blessed by your master offering you, a vassal, such undreamt
of favor. Its almost heaven-sent for you........you are awed !!!

This is an Immigrants' country...and I think true reasons
are always worth fighting for. And that point is sorely
missed by people like you.

And now I know for sure why India, a country of teeming
millions was successfully ruled by a bunch of people from a
frozen island for over 200 years.

go for it sumanta

I wrote a claim letter to the INS Director at VSC - it made me feel better
now apart from this what do you think you can achieve from overworked bureaucrats ? don't distract them, this will all come to pass
if you have time on your hands, read the GAO reports on all matters immigration - you'll understand better who we are dealing with
if worst comes to worst, you can decide to boycott this country - that's about all the power you have
take care

There are ways

PABCBC,
I agree with most of what you say.
The fact is there are ways to make things happen.

If each of us wrote letters to INS directors, nothing would happen.

If a thousand of us make it to a meeting with the President at the
White House, and extract press coverage ( assumimg such a
thing happens ) , you will wonder what it can do to you.

Just like you, I have some notion of the way things can be
made to move.. and putting up a show is a big part of it. That
what works in this country, to a big extent.

No bureaucrat or politician wants to be seen in media with a
thousand well earning and educated professionals engaged
in hi-tech careers, complaining about the laxity of a system.

And that's the only thing that can work. Being a passive
onlooker by reading GAO reports or writing solo letters
of anguish or banging each of our heads against our
living room walls will surely prompt you to abandon everything
and leave the country, just as you have suggested.

Sumanta - u da muh man

Sumanta,

Great idea to protest, but a few hundred people protesting is not going to do anything. Immigration is not a right.

I think a better thing to do is to submit a petition like they are doing for Boston DOL and SESA delays and get Rajiv Khanna to draft it for us and then submit that to all the local congressmen and INS commisioner.

Howzzat ?

G'Day Mate,
-Mav

Let's carry that idea forward

I like your idea.

All I am saying is, and you guys know that too, is that
putting up a show often makes a key difference.

Thus while a petition submitted by Rajiv Khana and signed by
a thousand of us is great, having the media cover 500 ( or
600 or 1000 ? ) well groomed hi-tech professionals
meeting the President to hand him over a petition would
let us extract a lot of mileage and coverage. Something
like that would surely make such a petition do some work,
as against the petition sitting idle on someone's table.

I am not saying let's just protest or create a riot. No,
that's not my way of a protest. I think that point is being
misinterpreted by many others here.

But let's submit a petition not just passively , but visibly. Let
us be SEEN. That makes a big difference.

Sumanta - is that practical ?

Sumanta,

Ur idea is great, I am all for it. We need to be visible, but do you think it is possible, I dont cuz of :

1. Most people dont want to get involved in anything visible period.

2. Who has the time ? (either due to family obligations, work obligations )

3. OK for all those left (if there are any) who is gonna take charge of organizing this on a mass scale ?

I think lets get something strated and then think of the next step.

Be Practical, NOT Frustrated

Hey Sumanta,
Cool down. We all understand your frustration. We are all in the same boat.

PROTEST... IN FRONT OF INS... U SERIUOS?????????

And meeting PRESIDENT in mass, after 9/11, the reason being Immigration stuff. I don't think so.

First, it is not practical. That is one reason nobody replied you.
Second, why do you think that everybody in this forum happens to be an Indian?. I don't see a reason for that.

And the way you were shooting replies.....man .... take a break.
If you can grab a cold beer just have it.

Relax, and wait. Patience pays.

My request, don't abuse Indian mentality or Indian way of thinking in a public forum like this.
You happen to be one I guess.

Protest on Immigration!

OK!

I am sure that most of us here remember the incident of the child who was deported back to Cuba, even after the mass protest in Florida/DC by the community and the legal fight that went into it. They lost! INS works in it's own right and with a big lobby of anti-immigration it would be a hard and loosing battle! Though this is a land of immigrants, you should also keep in mind that after 9/11, the public sentiment is a lot mixed on this issue and would not generate too much of public support as they are more interested in their own issues right now, like keeping their job and making up the lost Stock value!

Also, VSC is the first service center to announce that all immigration cases would go thru a detailed security check and would hence be delayed. They have justified this with the availability of the concurrent I485/I765. CSC, NSC and TSC are to follow suit shortly.

So, if we do protest, one of the issues that INS (or the new Dept of Homeland Security) is going to highlight in this current scenario is security concerns!

So as someone suggested, a protest would probably not fit in right but a petition would surely be in order!

Also, I do feel that we should not be derogatory of each other!

Just my thoughts!

Just a thought:

First of all, INS is trying to make up for delays by introducing concurrent filing, thus preserving the right to stay here legally and work and provisions for H1 extensions beyond 6 years. A GC is for a permanent (at least long-term) job offer and if one has one, then EAD and/or H1 extensions should work for employer and employee. Thanks to AILA who have lobbied for this.

Besides all the need for security clearances leading to delays, there's also the point that INS processing is not economical. I-485 or 140 filing fee is about $120. Say an IIO makes $40 an hour, this means any time spent over 3 hours on a single petition is a loss. That's not even counting overhead, mailing and handling costs, etc. I'm sure such petitions are scrutinized for more than 3-4 hours total.

If you are going to send a petition to the prez or INS or whoever, I'd suggest that you include a solution to the financial problem. I for one would not mind paying higher fees to get faster service. But I'm sure there are lots of blue-collar applicants who are not willing to pay a premium. Why not petition for premium I-140 processing similar to H1B?

Re: Be Practical, NOT Frustrated

No.. I don't mean protesting on the streets. You missed the
point. You can achieve far more by an elegant submission of a
strong petition, provided the numbers r high.

Yes, I assume, and rightfully so, that the big chunk of people
in this forum are Indian. And you know I am right. We all
know that's the case. We don't have to be politically correct.

As for abusing Indian mentality, no , I am not abusing it.
But , yes, I have no qualms in speaking about the attitude
of docility and servitude of the big chunk of Indians.

Case In Point : Sept 11...a heinous act...it was the handiwork
of the same group of people who have ravaged our nation for
ages.. and yet, we, the longest sufferers of such acts, were
the first to feel scared ... as if it was done by one of us...
imagine...we .. who have suffered most were acting as if
we r culprits.. perfect example of the spineless people of a
nation...who bow down when what they should be doing is
holding their heads high....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Someone
feeling guilty when the true guilty have attacked them !!!!
Unthinkable on the part of any other nation !!!!!!!!!! I call
it cowardice and spinelessness !!!!!!!!

The LC petition is an eye opener

Just wanted to add .....let's all look at the LC petition
as an eye opener.

I still feel that should have been done long time back.

We should act similarly about I-140 & I-485 right away.

If we do not puruse this thing about I-140 / I-485 with
VSC right now, I am 100% sure I-140 & I-485 processing
will take 2 - 3 years.

I am neither kidding nor raising any fear psychosis.....its just
natural for people to do that knowing 200% sure ( as I am ) that
the majority of the educated, tech-savvy Indian ( yes that;s the
biggest chunk ) professionals who might be affected are docile,
meek and will never protest.

Re: Protest on Immigration!

The problem with folks like u is that u don't realize your
own worth.

This nation is about money & power & money-power.

Elian Gonzalez was all about illegal immigration.

You are anything but illegal.. at least so I presume.

You earn a handsome salary, you are educated, tech savvy ,
u contribute to the economy.. u pay soc security and taxes.
And u get this raw deal.....I am astonished .. this is the
problem with Indians....a guy with a PhD never thinks he is
any more than a beggar. I just don't understand.. why ?

You as a GC holder are capable of opening a biz enterprise,
of creating value and jobs...

don't u realize that and does it not stir u to claim a better deal
on perfectly honest grounds..? what r u afraid of ?
