INS Receipt

Hi,
My employer filed GC application on my behalf in August '03 in NSC.
EAD received in November '03.
Wanted to follow the process up on BCIS website, by need the receipt number.
Asked the employer for one, but the answer was that it's against the company policy to disclose the receipt # to employees.
How can I get one? Is it on my EAD?

If not, how can I get one?

Thanks a lot!

Contact your lawyer

Hi,

I had almost the same issue. I sent an e-mail to my lawyer (i.e. company lawyer working on my green card) and she faxed me a copy of the receipt which had the lin #.

My company did not say anything about "company policy" though.

I am also a fellow Aug 03

I applied for EAD recently. I think you are talking about 485 receipt notice.

You can try to get the receipt by filing FOIA (G-639 on INS site). Further details can be found in this thread
http://boards.immigration.com/showthread.php?t=116194

I had filed my FOIA and received 140 approval notice, LC approval notice etc. in about a month. I don't think you have that much time. It is recommended by INS to apply EAD renewal atleast 180 earlier (although I have applied only about 110 before my EAD expiration)

No, the LIN# on the EAD is the receipt number for EAD. I485 receipt number is different and you should be able to get it from your lawyer provided your company does not have any issues with that.

Have you received your FP notice ?

Simple way to get your 485 LIN# - it will be there on your FBI Finger print notice. If you have not received one, wait for the FP notice.

**** No need to file FOIA ****
If you need lot more info then FOIA is the better option.

thanks,

In my case the application number in FP notice had FPS********** but my
485 # is LIN03249*****. The notice did have the A-number though.

Same here. My FP notice also had a number starting with FPS. I think the FP notice does not contain the LIN number. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Who paid the fee for I-485 and EAD etc. If you have paid the fee using a bank check. the reciept number should exist on the transaction completed returned check.

LIN # on FP

My FP notice appeared with FPS****.
My A# appears also on EAD.

Since my employer paid the filing fee, I do not have a receipt.
Is there anyway to extrapolate the LIN# for 485, we already know that it is LIN03*** :)

So, is FOIA the only option left? Do not want to pay for something that does not help a lot.

Can they locate my LIN# if I call NSC?

Thank you all who responded.

At the I-485 stage, you are the client to your attorney. Your employer could pay the fee for you as goodwill. You could also ask U'r attorney to fax the copy to you. If you need to apply for EAD extension or AP, you need the lin number. Just call your attorney.
