You have to dial this number for at least 20-30 minutes to get through the busy signal.
If you want to talk to a life person - you will be on hold for another 30 - 120 minutes.
They answer calls from 8.30am till 4 pm Eastern time. After that - prerecorded message only, identical to the one you see when you check your status online.
Hurry up. Phones will be disconnected on June, 1st.
I dialed persistently for 5 to 10 minutes, and finally got thru the busy signal. Then I waited for about 20 minutes (I guess I was lucky on this). The reason I wanted to call INS is that my collegues who filed much later than me got approved recently (she just waited three months), so I wanted to know why there is still no news on my case. I asked the lady about my status, she said I should log onto internet to find out, I should ask my lawyer to call INS to find out. She didn’t even want to know my case number. She said the currently processing date for I-140 is Apr 2002. She hung up the call quickly, didn’t want to listen to me at all. I guess there is really no use to talk to them:-(
No. She didn't, she just said "all I can tell you is we are working on April 2002, if your friend filed on January 2003, and got approved, that's her case, I don't know what happened, I cannot tell you. You need to talk your lawyer." That's rude
Generally, I does not make any sense to call them before notice day for your EB category will reach their processing date. They post processing time reports at many websites every 5 weeks.
Some people found it useless to call them even if their ND was past due for 1 month.
