Information on H1 stamping

Hi,

I have some questions regarding my H1 visa:

1. I have an H1 approval notice which I got in Dec 2003. I will be going to India in December this year to get my visa stamped. Will my case be counted in the quote for H1 visas for the next year, or not? In other words, do I need to worry about the quota issue at all to get my H1 stamp done?

2. I had an H1 before which was valid till January 31, 2003. Since I will be applying for a new stamp within 1 year of the previous H1's expiration, am I eligible for a drop box in India, or do I need to go to the consulate to get the stamp.

3. Can I go to Canada or Mexico to get the stamp...I heard that the US govt has made it mandatory to go to your home country to get the stamp.

4. As I mentioned in point 2, I had an H1 before which was valid till Hanuary 31, 2003. Last year, I changed status from H1 to L1 and then finally back to H1. Can I get my stamp here in Missourie...someone told me that we can send our passport to the INS center somewhere in Missourie and get the stamp. I am not sure if that applies to the L1 to H1 conversion also.

I will appreciate if you can please let me know.

++++++++++++++++++You have a prexeisting approval. I see no quota issue for stamping.

2. I had an H1 before which was valid till January 31, 2003. Since I will be applying for a new stamp within 1 year of the previous H1's expiration, am I eligible for a drop box in India, or do I need to go to the consulate to get the stamp.

++++++++++++++++That is entirely a matter of local rules that change fasterthat anyone can track.

3. Can I go to Canada or Mexico to get the stamp...I heard that the US govt has made it mandatory to go to your home country to get the stamp.

++++++++++++++++++You can still go to Can./Mex. But they try to send you back to your home country if there are any doubts (for example degree from home country - not USA). Also, if the visa is refused, you would have to fy directly to your home country from Canada or Mexico. You cannot usually re-enter USA after a visa refusal.

4. As I mentioned in point 2, I had an H1 before which was valid till Hanuary 31, 2003. Last year, I changed status from H1 to L1 and then finally back to H1. ++++++++++++++++++++No.

I will appreciate if you can please let me know.
