I will soon be a British citizen, I know as a Brit I won't be eligible to apply for the DV lottery. My current nationality is Eritrean!
My question is, would I still be able to participate in the Lottery as an Eritrean citizen even though my nationality will soon change?

The eligibility for the dv lottery is through the country of birth but not nationality. Since you were born in Eritrea, you are fully qualified to apply for the dv lottery. Read this pg 2

I got another Question again on the chargeability issue?
“Native of a country whose natives qualify: In most cases, this means the country in which you were born. However, there are two other ways you may be able to qualify. First, if you were born in a country whose natives are ineligible but your spouse was born in a country whose natives are eligible, you can claim your spouse’s country of birth—provided that both you and your spouse are on the selected entry, are issued visas, and enter the United States simultaneously. Second, if you were born in a country whose natives are ineligible, but neither of your parents was born there or resided there at the time of your birth, you may claim nativity in one of your parents’ countries of birth if it is a country whose natives qualify for the DV-2011 program”.

Question is I am a British citizen but was born and raised in Ethiopia but my Ethiopian nationality has been revoked as long as with many 70,000 or so people….when the border war between both countries was ongoing.

Since my parents were born in Eritrea I can get Eritrean citizenship…but would I be able to claim chargeability based on my parents country of birth even though I have never lived there?

Hi, I think you are confusing yourself with the citizenship issue. As stated in your quoted paragraph above, the only means to qualify for the dv lottery is where you were born. So far as you can prove that you were born in a particular country - then you qualify to apply for the lottery. Whether your citizenship has been revoked or not is not the issue. Both Ethiopia and Eritrea citizens qualifies for the dv programme, so you are at liberty to use any one of them. If your parents was born in Eritrea or can prove they are Eritrean by birth, then you can claim Eritrean nativity. THE DV LOTTERY PROGRAM NATIVITY OR ELIGIBILITY HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH CITIZENSHIP
