Infopass Experience

Since there was a lot of talk about finding your case status through Infopass, I decided to give it a shot today. Here’s my experience…

I was able to book an Infopass appointment this morning for 11:00 AM today. There were not many people so I was in and out within half an hour. The immigration officer told me that everything looked ok. When asked about name check she said that it was cleared on April 21 of this year. She also mentioned that they did name check twice; first one was cleared in Dec 04. She said everything was in order and it was just a matter of being assigned to an officer for adjudication. When asked about the timeframe for the case being assigned to an officer, she said that they are working hard to process all cases but there are too many cases in the pipeline right now. She asked me to wait another 90 days.

Other folks, who did the same, please share your infopass experience here…

my experience same infact even timing as I was there around 11:00 AM, she told FBI name check is cleared and fingerprint is valid till July

she said I might get request for another fingerprint or I could get approval before july

I went to the infopass on 1st June. The person at the counter was very helpful and informed me that my case is preadjucated and that it is under review. Then, I asked him about my security check. He said that there were two security checks done. One of them is cleared and the other is pending. Not sure what it meant and so I asked him more info about the pending security check. He mentioned that the officer reviewing the case can either wait for the pending security check or consider the cleared security check.

Overall, Infopass appointment was quite helpful when compared to the generic info given when I called Service center directly.

My details

Infopass.

I made the infopass appt this morning and went to the INS office half an hour ago. The lady at the counter told me my name check is complete and my case is pre-adjudicated.
she said I should hear something before the end of the month.
Just want to share for what it's worth.

Info Pass Experience

Mine was a horrible experience. Went at 9 am, asked the officer about the status of the case and if she/he can tell me what is going on, since its been pending after I applied in June 2003. She went all about how the processing is different for me because there was a motion to deny in 04 (I corrected her that it was not a motion to deny, it was indeed an RFE which I replied) and then she could only tell me that they received the FP which i gave in May 07. So at the end of the day, it was such a waste of time. She could'nt tell me more than I know and she went on and on about how "You people think that USCIS is slow and lazy and they dont know what they were doing". I did'nt want to irk her so much and I didnt ask much.

Now the question is if I want to know about the name check how do I go about doing that ?

Thanks

She is proof of that statement.

Schedule another Infopass and hope you get to speak to somebody else.

I had an appointment this afternoon, it was too horrible, The lady looked at my notice and said I am not suppose to ask the status, go to ur attorney or ask my employer. Is it true I can't ask for status ? Then I asked is the name check is still pending ? then she replied... yes. Again is my case or name check ....she said my name check is pending.
After coming out of office I was checking what are the documents that I had given to her, then I found my 140 notice, below that my 485 notice.
I think she may checked my 140 status and told me this..
I am not sure.. anyway I think I got in name check.

Let God bless all

I took an infopass and was told my name check is pending. Didn't give anymore details. I filed 485 2.5 yrs ago and name check is still pending I am wondering what are my options? should I file writ?

I filed 485 2.5 yrs ago and name check is still pending

It looks like -- Name Check has a validity period. Just like Biometrics -- it has to be redone again.

This if true -- and if one is so unlucky to be stuck in 2nd name check when dates are current and if the window of being current is small -- may be one has to do the name check for 3rd time :)

Name Check has got the "Security" tag associated with it ... we cannot do anything regarding it.

any idea..

Can anyone tell us taking infopass for pending 485 is not legal if attorney still rep the case ?

Labor_wait,

What she told you was a load of BS. She doesn't know what she is talking about.
You CAN take an infopass and ask all the questions you want.
That's what me and MA_labor did today.

Everyone has an attorney representing their case.

Be more confident next time you go there. If you don't get proper reply from someone, Tell them you want to talk to their supervisor or somebody else.
99 percent of the time it will work.

for those who had bad experience,

Here is my experience in the past, my Advance parole was stuck and I had to make few trips to local office what I learnt was every officer is different and there are few who are prejudical or they are having bad day and they vent out their frustation on you,

you just need to be smart and play accordingly, if you find officer is not helpful, just try to get out and take another appointment

Name checks are supposed to be valid indefinitely for the same application (if you changed jobs and filed another I-140 and I-485 you'd need another name check). I think the service centers are redoing it for the transferred cases because they are ignoring what the original service center did with the case.

(1) How can one check if the Fingerprinting is cleared or not?: Is there a number i can call in? I remember having doen this many years ago. but cannot find the number

(2) Name check: any way to find out if it is cleared other than take an apppt with an Immigration Officer at a local center/office?

Which option (type of appt) to choose to check on status of 485

Do we choose
"You have a question about your case"
or
"You wish to speak to an immigration officer"

Please let me know.
Thanks in advance

No appointment

Hi Gurus..
I am trying to make appointment to "speak to Immig officer", but it prompted me: "At this time, there are no information appointments available for the office in your area. Please try back again later".

It seems that some Local immig. officers do not encourage appointment.

My PD is Nov 2003 (EB2), RD June 2005, So far No LUD. Just wondering what should I do.
thanks all..

I visited the local immigration office after taking an appointment and the officer (a nice guy) told me that my name check is still pending with FBI. My wife's name check cleared. I need to wait for the name checkto be cleared.

My name check is confirmed.

I went to local office today and confirmed that my name check still pending. Why did they send 2nd FP notice? No idea.. Waiting!!!
