I am about to file for I-485, I had read in muthry.com FAQ that
birth certificate issued by Indian consulate is generally not
acceptable. Could anybody throw some light on this!.
Thank again.

Birth certificate from Indian consulate is fine although sometimes they prefer some document from your home country as proof.

Once you apply for I-485 it all depends on Officer who is processing your case. It seems some of the officers won\'t be so particular, but some are very particular that the Birth certificate has to be from Local Authorities.

If you don\'t have any birth certificate right now then may be you can get it from Embassy and send it with 485 application. But once the officer start processing your case, he might give a RFE ( depends on officer) for birth certificate.

Sue Kumar, applicants will sue you for this.
INS has rejected BCs from Indian consulates. So, they are NOT fine.

Dear Ajith,
I am really sorry if I said something wrong but my husband and I got approved with our Indian Consulate birth certificates. I think like someone mentioned it depends on the officer involved and maybe on individual basis.
