I've heard that if parents are physically present with you during the time
of oath taking, they get some kind of a fast tracked green card.

Any one know if its true? If so, how would one go about applying for
GC for dependent parents?

Thanks to all the gracious souls who make the unchartered look a little less
daunting!

If they are physically in US on visitor visa then once you become a citizen you can file I-130 and I-485 together which can save you some time as opposed to filing I-130 and upon its approval get their consular processing done in your home country.

Not sure if this is what you were referring to though.

Thanks Deer

Thanks Deer. I think this 130+485 filing when becoming a citizen, sounds
right. At what time can I file this paper work? Is it on the day of the
oath taking or can it be done any time after becoming a citizen?

Thanks again,

Once you become a US citizen, you can file for immigrant visa for you parents whenever you and your parents are ready. Does not have to be on the same day you take oath, but that's when you become a US citizen.

Hope this helps.

Any clues of what preference they have and what's the processing time? Do they get a temporary authorization after you submit it?

Tks

There is no quota for parents of US citizens, so the application does not get delayed for priority date to be current. Whatever the usual time it takes for approval of 130 and 485 would be the total time.

I haven't done it myself (and did not go thru I-485 for my GC) so do not know exactly when in the process they would get temporary work authorization.

From what I remember from others posts is that if you file I-130 and I-485 together, process should be done in 6-9 months, but folks who have applied for their parents can provide some more details.
