Info For Families Moving To US

@ Tony Black: It says clearly on the notification letter that not everyone who received the notification letter will get a visa! The reason why they have to send out more notification letters is also stated: some who got the NL changed their mind (or their situation changed) so they never send back the forms.... some were chosen but they don't meet the requirements (education, money, etc.) or fail the background check.
I think it's good that you tell about your situation, BUT: you've done that several times now, you don't need to start new threads or hijack other threads every few days! And: as you could see in the September bulletin, ALL numbers (except from a few countries) became current in DV-2007.

I saw in the September 2007 visa bulletin which is applicable only to DV 2007 winners,a chargeable value , not a number , but a word, "CURRENT" , what does that mean?

Does it mean that everyone who got a first letter became current on that month?

Or that the people who were current in the October 2007 bulletin were the same being processed during the month of September 2007 onwards?

Please explain.

If it says "current" this means that ALL numbers of this region are current (except the countries listed separately). This should mean that everyone is supposed to have an interview. However, it does not say that everyone gets the greencard because if the interview is really late, the background check might not be done on time to issue the visa (before September 30).
But that's why don't give up hope and burn your NL or stuff like that: you might still get an interview and hopefully you won't need an extensive background check (I think that depends on your name (how frequent it is) and the country). Just make sure you have all necessary documents ready by the time you have the interview (but don't get the police certificate now because from what I read in the forum it shouldn't be older than 6months).

Hi all,

This is my 1st post on the forum. Must say this forum has been a great source of information as to what to expect and do. I am happy to see this topic. Recently I told myself to stop being overly anxious about whether the 2nd package will come or not, and I've started to read up about the US/states/cities, cost of living (rental, schools etc...) and job opportunities : from the books I bought and from the internet. I felt that I have not done enough to understand how my current financial resources will fare in the US for me being the sole bread winner of the family. So maybe it's a blessing that the 2nd package has not come yet.

You see I work in a bank and I get to read about the markets everyday. The US dollar may be weakening to our advantage but there seems to be some consensus of 25% recession, 50% slowdown and 25% good growth in the US going forward. Although housing prices have been coming down lately, they are still high. Rentals are not coming down as more people would rather rent than buy. I wouldn't want to be caught in a jobless situation for months in the US. I am checking out various job websites to have a feel of what kind of jobs are available in which cities.

That's said, I am delighted to have an opportunity to get a GC, prior to that, I was planning to do some courses in the US, guess this DV2008 is the cheapest avenue to live and work in the US !

Some websites which I find useful :

http://www.wikipedia.org/ for info on cities
http://www.cityrating.com
http://finance.yahoo.com taxes, real estate, education etc...
http://realestate.msn.com/Rentals and other stuff
http://money.cnn.com/
http://www.city-data.com/
http://maps.google.com/ map of anyplace in the US with aerial photos !

It is nice to read abt people in this forum who share the same aspirations and apprehensions. By the way, I am thinking of Boston, Atlanta. Been to NYC, it's too crowded, poor living standards, not close to nature despite possibly higher salary. Best Wishes to everyone.

Country : Singapore
CN 2008AS1xxx
June 07 : Received NL from KCC Israel, thought it's some kind of scam, skeptical at first. I applied through USAFIS
July 07 : Returned to KCC
2 Oct : KCC replied email said forms received not did not say when is the interview even though number is current for October
Oct : went ahead to prep all docs and certs, still daily checking letter box
for 2nd package and checking website http://singapore.usembassy.gov/schedule_for_immigration_visa_interviews.html

Hi Agorazo,
If your number is current for October, you should call/e-mail KCC and the American Embassy to find out your interview date. You may miss your interview since the mail system may not deliver your second package on time.
October is almost ended.

Thank you for prompting me to email KCC.

Got a reply " An interview for this case has been scheduled at the American
Consulate/Embassy of Singapore on December 3, 2007. A notification
letter was sent to you on October 16, 2007. " !

Lorelei,

I hear ya! That is exactly what I would do, If I ever manage to get a GC, straight on the plane to NY, get it over with!! :) I have always wanted to live there, but I am sure I would get sick of it eventually. Your comment “get it out of my system” made me smile! As that’s the exact way I think about it too! :)
Where are you from and what’s your CN looking like?
Hi
I got Police Certificate-Clearance (after 7 days) on 05 september 2007, and my interview date is December 6,2007, So the question is: Do I need to get new police record clearance (certificate) or this is still valid, because regarding to the information all dokuments must be valid 6 month minimum?
