Island Girl, thanks so much for posting that.

If successful, I am doing the NY thing for at least a year to get it 'out of my system'. I am just on my own so no hassles with children etc.

But I'm thinking after that, being a Librarian, I'm not going to be able to sustain a NY lifestyle so am planning on moving if it all doesn't work out - this article is great. Thanks a bunch!!!

thanks island girl.
it's a nice posting. almost everyone has dream to US but they do not aware about how to survive at there. Life is hard and we have to grab any opportunities.
May God bless us.

Moving To Us

life will certainly be too hard couple of years, but once you get some local education and experience , things will advance very fast.

New York has two advantages excellent communication system and easy to get an odd job in the food sector, retail stores

MY recommendations to all "Do not fly to USA from Mid November to Last Week of January" , unless someone has a ready job for you. The job market is real bad these 3 months. I suffered a lot by flying to USA last December

Lorelei,

I hear ya! That is exactly what I would do, If I ever manage to get a GC, straight on the plane to NY, get it over with!! :) I have always wanted to live there, but I am sure I would get sick of it eventually. Your comment “get it out of my system” made me smile! As that’s the exact way I think about it too! :)
Where are you from and what’s your CN looking like?

I am glad to know the article was of some help, I found it quite interesting. My husband and I (no kids) are also thinking of NY but also of CA. We have family in both places as well as a couple of other states. So far CA seems to be the likely place if we are successful.

Yea, I would agree with you, it would be a choice between NYC and somewhere in CA for me to (prob bay area somewhere) but CA is a good bit further away from Ireland were I am from, that is why I would favour the east cost to start with, it would be much easier to fly home for long weekends while I am getting use to life in the US, and feeling home sick! :) I am also hoping that I can keep my same job, just move to the US office (Boston) and do it there, which would make my transition to the US very smooth if I could organise it! Wont be a problem as long as I have a GC, they wouldn’t give me a H1 though as there was no business need for me over there when I asked…. Dam company politics….

hahahaha I am sick of going there on holidays every year - I have to say I was in rural Texas when I had my J1 back in 01/02 and had an AMAZING time. Texas was fantastic - but yep I am planning on my first year being a fun year. I won't have a job offer beforehand but have some connections in libraries that may help. :) The other benefit that I thought that even though NY rent is high, I won't need to buy a car - I don't really want to get tied down incase the whole thing backfires and I want to come home. I'm also looking at a furnished sublet, again just to save me having to buy a whole lot of stuff just in case it doesn't go to plan.

As you can see from my sig, my CN isn't bad. I am thinking a CP in Sydney in about March/April - I finish my Masters at the end of May so if successful, I am looking at going over with one straight move (just going with my clothes and that is about it!) in about July-ish.

My only stress is that I don't have a job offer and as I know nobody there who I could ask for support - it is all on my own funds. As a not-yet-in-her-30s girl, who has travelled every year, and is now paying for my masters... there isn't a lot there. I don't know how they could expect someone on their own to have a lot. Like I will have way over the Poverty level BUT some word is, at the Sydney consulate they expect a lot.

It would be great for you if you could work for your present employers at the US office. That would certainly make things a lot easier.

So they refused you the H1 huh? Yeah, the politics sucks :)

Yea, well I only have about 2/3 years IT experience and the company said that it was just easier to hire someone locally then go though the hassle of H1.That said they have done it for a good few people before me, so I was going to ask again after another year, but in the mean time I got a NL, so hoping that I wont need to now! And if I get a GC, I will be giving them first refusal on me! (the tables will have turned) As I have a fair amount of specific industry experience I doubt they will want me to leave at that point so I am hoping to negotiate a position over in the US. The thing is I will be doing the exactly same job as my team is geographically distributed between here and the US. But of course I cant make plans yet, knowing my luck the numbers will stop at 22000 or something….

I was back there again in March myself (NYC) had a great week, we hired out an apartment for the week so I was a true New Yorker for the week! Sounds like you have it all worked out, all you need is a current number and a bit of luck and NYC here you come! I have decided to cheer my self up over this waiting and booked a trip to OZ for April 08 for a month, that will be something for me to look forward to and will help break up the agonising wait … I have a good few friends in Melbourne and Sydney should be good fun. Hopefully when I get back in May I will have to wait a few more weeks for the next bulletin and then my number will be current :) interview in August and then GC to follow…. :) If I make it to NYC I will have to buy you a beer! ;-)

that depends. My friends flew in in November and a couple of weeks later she already had a job at Macy's - seasonal, but they hired her full-time after the season ended, because she was great. That held her over until she found an office job in March, and gave her time to practice her English. Not everybody comes here speaking English...

I will never have to bother about cost of living or real estate value ,cause am soooo screwed.

Since I found out that am never going to the US through a GC offering which I supposedly "won" with "no guarantees" ,I feel so depressed daily.

This post makes me even more depressed , knowing that people are already planning ahead , gosh!!!!

I will start a blog ,on my experience about this lottery , that is to warn people about the lucrative offers the US hands out, just to gather data.

I am in their systems now ,and I have never even set foot in Kentucky.

They know everything about me which makes me feels soo naked.

I gave out "free" information ,for nothing in return.

I must know the real reason as to why they don't let in the excess 50,000 ,yet they ask them to send back the forms.

It is good to know that you still have the option of the H1 if your number does not become current. I too think that they will not be willing to let you go with the experience that you have gained, so either way things seem to be leaning in your favour.

Nevertheless, I will still be rooting for you that your number becomes current :D

Gosh TonyBlack, you have been spreading your depression like a virus all over the site .

Lighten up and stop taking the high CN so personal. It isn't over until it is over. Have a little hope, if you do not get this one you may get 2009. Stop being so pessimistic :)

Dude, no jokes did you ever think that maybe the DV lottery isn't for you?

Stop ruining threads with stuff like this and get on with life.

my uncle was forever convinced that people don't actually win anything through DV lottery, and it's just a ploy to collect data on potential immigrants. When my family won and got their GCs, he was very surprized and bitter. He wanted to live in the US all his life, and he might have had a GC by now if he just played the DV lottery. Too late for him - the country is no longer eligible.

Easy for you to say!!!! , and why would I think that this lottery is not for me yet I got the first notification letter.

Is there something that you know that I don't? , maybe something like a conspiracy that makes you say that this lottery isn't for me?

If I am not wrong , this is not a heaven for those with low numbers , I mean you can talk about going to the U.S since you are "supposedly" the lucky ones and I tell people about the frustration of the unlucky half.

Why should people get just one side of the story?,talk about serious information blackout!!!!

If I had read a post like this one online early in May of 2007 when I first got my notification letter , I would have been seriously informed.

Don't quiet me down dude, I think my frustrated posts are not even close in proportion to the emotional content of those who know they are already in the program.

I am the other side of the story.Think about it.

@ Tony Black: It says clearly on the notification letter that not everyone who received the notification letter will get a visa! The reason why they have to send out more notification letters is also stated: some who got the NL changed their mind (or their situation changed) so they never send back the forms.... some were chosen but they don't meet the requirements (education, money, etc.) or fail the background check.
I think it's good that you tell about your situation, BUT: you've done that several times now, you don't need to start new threads or hijack other threads every few days! And: as you could see in the September bulletin, ALL numbers (except from a few countries) became current in DV-2007.

Hi all,
I do not have my details on me right now, but I had my interveiw on 11 Oct 2007 in Tunisia. Everything went so smooth. My case was approved, but I will get the visa as soon as I submit police check from Canada.
Any questions
