Info about working abroad for an American company!

Hi everybody!
I'm new to this forum, I became a US citizen last May, and my husband is also an American. I don't know whether any of you could help us find answers to our questions, but I thought I'd try.
I'm originally from Italy, and my husband and I decided to move back there. We're leaving in a couple of weeks, and I couldn't be happier!
Here's the catch. My husband is a Software Developer, and his current company in the US would like for him to keep working for them once in Italy. Does anybody know how this process would work, or if it's even feasable tax-wise, etc.?
Any help, suggestions, advice, will be totally appreciated.
Thank you so much!

It is not unusual. The tax implications should be explored at the IRS website or your tax professional.

It will be a loss if he works for a US company as he will be liable for US taxes and Taxes in Italy.
If he works for a Italian employer and stays out of US for 330 days out of the year he still will have to file US tax returns but his income upto I believe 82K or 88K is exempt.

Thanks for your answers, guys. We're trying to get a hold of an international Tax attorney, but so far we've heard so many different things about this situation that our heads are literally spinning.

If any of you ever had this happen to you, or have any other suggestions, please let me know.

Thank you again!

It does not matter who he works for. If he is a US citizen, he has to pay taxes on global income, and file income taxes as a resident.
However, most of these taxes can be credited back as part of foreign tax credit, OR these can be exempted under foreign earned income exclusion. As namecheck said, FEIC is available only if you stay out of US for 330 days. Under FEIC, approx 90000 USD of income earned abroad is exempt.
You can go through the forms for both options and see which works better for you.

Thank you for your precious information, sanjoseaug20!
Our main problem is that is company is going to be US-based, so he's going to practically work for a US company, but residing in Italy. I don't know whether this is going to make any difference (for example, when I went to the IRS website it only talked about US citizens working for a US company based abroad, while my husband's company is going to be physically in the States).
Maybe we're just making this more complicated than it is (I hope so!). I just like having everything in order, I don't like wondering.

Thank you again for all of your answers!
