Please pay attention to this if you or anyone you know has a 20 year validity Indian passport. Anyone having such a passport is requested to send it in for a 10 year replacement passport. All guidelines for a new passport have to be followed. A covering letter explaining the situation will do no harm since you are not sending any fee for this. The processing time is 10 days. There were some issues in US airport imigration for 20 year passports. Normally countries do not give 20 year passports. But India issued a number of 20 year passports. They are not doing a good job of contacting the persons affected. So it would be in your good interest to get it corrected.

"alren" is correct, it is just advice ,the 20 year validity passport is valid document issued by government of India. Ministry of External affairs or passport offices in India has NOT posted or said that 20 year validity passport are not valid and they cant do it as nobody forced them to issue 20 year validity passports with extra fees. how the others who dont read or write or check the sites will know that they need new passport ???
let them find out the Indian Citizens who are in US, UK, Canada and otherpart of the world with 20 year validity passport and post them the letters that "please come Visit our Embassy/consulate see the same dirty faces of clercks as you see in India and we will pay for your Hotel, Airfare, food and we will entertain you for 1 week then we will give you new passport with 10 year validity
let them find out the Indian Citizens who are in US, UK, Canada and otherpart of the world with 20 year validity passport and post them the letters that "please come Visit our Embassy/consulate see the same dirty faces of clercks as you see in India and we will pay for your Hotel, Airfare, food and we will entertain you for 1 week then we will give you new passport with 10 year validity
