Can anybody post recent experience with passport renewal thro DC consulate? The consulate asks that all information be filled through online form and not typed or hand written. But the online and the generated PDF (which is not writable) don't map well. Many fields in the PDF files are not writable through PDF and is not represented in the form. Plus it gives appts by default which does not make any sense especially since the majority of people mail in the form. I am kind of lost here. Any help is appreciated.

Yes these rules are brand new and possibly not more than a month old. I don't know if there is anyone here who has used the new renewal option.

I too am curious and would like to know of these improvements and how exactly they work.

Recently renewed and got the passport in California.

- Electronically filled in and printed the form. Filled in other details with pen.
- Appointment date is the earliest date, if you want to submit the application personally. As I need to mail, I didn't care about it. Its weird though.
- Exchanged email with embassy about what forms need to be notarized. Fro the renewal, I am not ready to notarize about 6 documents (and pay $60!).
- Here is the email response that I got. Please be aware of the circumstances...Mine is CA, Minor renewal...

> If your child's passport was issued five or ten
> years ago, please apply for
> a new passport for your child.( Below 17years)
> You need:
>
> A new passport form
> Two photos
> The original passport
> A copy of the child's visa status in USA
> A copy of either parent's driver's licence
> A signed and nortarized no objection affidavit,
> available online.
> A money order for $25
> A prepaid Express envelope.
> Remember to registe online

I know this list is different from online and hence printed this email and sent along with only one notarized copy.

Hi frens,
I lost my Indian passport on May 1st 2008. I applied for a new passport at washington on may 20th. I got my new passport on august 8th 2008. My new passport has just 1 year validity. Now I am planning to apply for renewal of passport for 10 years. I wanted to know whether I go for visa stamping with this new one or apply for renewal and get the renewed passport for 10 years and go for stamping on renewed passport... which one is better.please suggest.....By the way, I have visa validity till 2011. If I go to stamping fo the new one, which is valid for just 1 year, I will get visa stamped for just 1 year. that is the problem......Please help
