Indian passport lost

I can't seem to find my long expired Indian passport although I do have a photocopy. Is this going to cause me problems applying for OCI? Has anyone not sent in their Indian passport for cancellation? All responses appreciated!

I don't see a problem as long as you have photocopies to provide with your OCI application. The Indian passport cancellation is optional and they won't hold up your OCI for that. In fact from what I heard they sometimes don't even bother canceling your Indian passport even when you provide it along with the US passport.
