I am waiting for my green card which has been approved. I will receive it in about 2 weeks. my employment authorization card arrived today with the wrong date of birth. I have to apply all over again and potentially pay the fee again to get it fixed. As my green card is on the way should I forget about reapplying for the EAD card? does this card become irrelevant once I get my green card? any help/suggestions greatly appreciated.

You should be getting your new Greencard within days (God Willing). The EAD card is totally useless once you get your GC.

99.9999% You'll get the new GC before a new EAD card is issued to you. Don't waste your money & time.

How do you know it's been approved? A verbal approval in the interview, or an email, or an approval notice in the mail?

If it's only verbal, the approval is not necessarily finalized yet.

I got a verbal approval at the interview and a 'welcome to the united states' letter confirming the approval a week later

Sometimes people get a verbal approval but the official approval is months later. But in your case you got the welcome letter so that confirms your official approval. If you apply to replace the EAD it will get rejected because your green card is approved.

Do you have a copy of the I-485 form that you submitted? If you provided the birth date wrong on that form, that may have caused the wrong date on the EAD, and may also cause a wrong date on your green card.

I have a copy of the I 485 with the correct date on it. Hopefully the GC will have the correct one!! thank you for your help. saved me a lot of hassle:)

I'm just curious but why would you have to reapply again? I am looking at the notices I get from USCIS and they state "please contact us if any of the information is incorrect." I would think this would be a situation that would fall under that directive.

I called uscis to tell them about it. the lady on the other end sounded like she was reading from a troubleshooting list like a computer call center. She read the list and asked if I needed it repeated. I asked her straight if I had understood correctly and would need to reapply. she said I did

I think they needed to check whose fault the mistake was. I would have to reapply and also show evidence that they were at fault to get the fee waived i.e. a copy of my original I-485 that I submitted
