Hello everyone, it seems like pretty informative forum. I am just curious is there anyone here living in Baltimore and obtained their TN status? I am just having a trouble making employers to understand the TN status. Every time I talk to them about that I would have to get TN status to work, they all get so weirded out and try to avoid me. So my next move is try to find other Canucks who is working with TN status in Baltimore area and try to apply to those companies that they are working for....of course not many people will tell me where they work but I thought I should try.

What are you telling them?

How are you phrasing it?

What category are you in? Engineer? Economist?

Baltimorians/Canucks

Hey simsd, I have B.A in Econ. I've never worked in Econ field. I was a broker. So I started to apply bunch of consulting firms (econ research, analyst etc).
Firstly, I don't have econ data analyzing experience so I am willing to accept Junior positions like Junior Quant. analyst. During the interview when I mention that i will be obtaining TN status according start to work for them, these are the following thing they say:

1. we have to do background check before we offer you the job (in this case u don't have SSN => we can't do the back ground check). Let me talk to my manager and see what we can do...... never calls me back... when I try to reach them they never contact me back
2. we only offer permanent jobs, but you are saying is it has to be for 1 year...sorry we can't do that...good luck. Then i would say how about H1B, they say we have certain limits every year and we already reached that limit.
3. before I even explain what TN status is they say oh we don't do that...

man!! I don't know how you do it, but I think I need someone else to refer me or something (possibly other Canadian)

anyways, help me guys...

Jill, go to headhunting firms like Analytic Recruiting....they brought me to US and can help weed out firms that have no clue how the TN works...PM me if you need more info.

p.s. I have a B.A Econ (Data Analysis Major) though
