My mother petitioned me an immigrant visa under the category, unmarried son over 21 years.

Now, that my visa has been approved, am i allowed to get married before entering the US?..

or will it affect my GC and application for citizenship in the future.. please help.. i really need it ASAP

If you marry before physically entering the US as a permanent resident, the immigrant visa will be voided.

If the mother is an LPR, the visa is voided.

If the mother is a USC, you would move to a different category and wait longer but your spouse and minor children could come with you.

Further clarification: whether your mother is a USC or LPR, the immigrant visa will be voided if you marry before entering the US with it. But the underlying petition still stays alive if your mother is a USC, so you can obtain another immigrant visa in the married category a few years later based on the same petition. Whereas if she is an LPR the visa and the petition are both voided and the whole process has to restart from scratch if you want a GC.

aw.. thank you so much for your answers! .. my mother is a USC.. so i have to enter the US first.. and maybe be back after a year in my native land and get married, would that be ok then?

and if it is, how many years will it take for me to petition my wife?

After you enter the US to secure your own GC, you can get married and file a petition for your wife right away. But after you file the petition your wife can expect to wait another 3-5 years.
