"We, some of the members of the Immigration.Com community have, with the help of Rajiv, started a new corporation, ImmigrationPortal.Org (non-profit organization) to address various legal immigration problems faced by non-immigrants and immigrants."
Note that the corporation is not controlled by Rajiv. We are independent, though Rajiv continues to be one of our directors.

Friends,

I wish to update that I have requested Wachovia bank to open a checking account in the name of 'Immigrationportal.Org'. I expect to get today an account number and wire transfer information so those who wish to make contributions by check or make a transfer can be able to do it. Meanwhile I will get signature cards and other forms from the bank and have them signed by designated signatories. However, this should not stop any one from issuing a check in favor of 'Immigrationportal.Org' as his/her contribution for the fund. Please go ahead and collect the contribution checks and mail the same to my attention on address;

Here is the draft version of the mission statements of IMMIGRATIONPORTAL.ORG even though they are not finalized yet
and it will be posted at IMMIGRATIONPORTAL.ORG's web site once it is prepared.

Mission

1) To help improve all the immigration laws governing legal immigrants, by sending representation to the US congress.
2) To help reduce backlogs for all types of legal immigration
3) To fight all kinds of discrimination against legal immigrants
4) To enable the employment based legal immigrants to obtain citizenship after working here for 5 years (instead of waiting for 5 yrs after GC)
5) To offer financial/legal help to legal immigrants who are victims of wrongful/hasty action of USCIS.

Note : The term legal immigrant was used to mean "Any immigrant
who resides legally in USA and has not yet obtained citizenship of USA".
 
I am happy to see something like this come up and willing to contribute.

Not just issues that the funds will be used, also we would like to know who are officers and board of directors which will govern the usage of funds in a appropriate way.

This kind of information will be announced soon,
and it will be on the IMMIGRATIONPORTAL.ORG web site once it is available.
 
Will it be like the ACLU

My contributions to the ACLU are tax deductable. If that can be
arranged it will allow people to contribute more. Does the "not
for profit" status automatically make it tax deductable?
 
I tried to access immigrationportal.org, and got the following message "You are not authorized to access this page.".

I'd like to donate only after I see something there.

This "immigrationportal.org" is our organisation. It is started by forum members like you. So it's your baby. Please feed money to your infant baby. The recommended amount is $200 (debate is welcome). We will publish the names (user names) and the amounts contributed, on a separate thread. All the core team members are actively involved in the new organisation.

I understand your concern.

On the website You are going to see pretty much what you are seeing on this thread. Remember this immigrationportal.org is started to raise funds for immigration reforms. It is started by CORE team members, which are active members of this forum, you can see the list by dsatish. They are active members, few of them even approved but still want to fight and work with us, for instance Edison.

What you need to understand is it is work in progress. We just registered the website, opened the bank account and registered the orginaization. Bringing up website is the next thing and we are on it.

The funds are going to be used for Advertisements to support our lawsuit, website maintainance etc. More details will be posted soon.

Seems, an account is needed to access immigrationportal.org. I created an account there and logged in, but still see "You are not authorized to access this page.". As rk4gc, the site is really in "initial" stage.

At the same time answering questions here, please update the site with mission and some guide. I think, it will take only several minutes.

If this organization is going to be involved in lobbying congress, then any contributions to this will NOT be tax deductible. I remember, we had faced a similar situation with www.ISN.ORG a few years back. Since they were a lobbyist organization, they could not obtain a tax -exempt status.

Please correct me if I am wrong!

Oops, seeing this message late. Didn't put my user name on check. When you find checks with no user names indicated, please be advised among them the largest amount one was contributed by me. :)

Most of the times, money speaks, especially in this country. So why not contribute to fight for our own rights and avoid paying for one after another EAD's and AP's?

I dont think we will be doing "Lobbying" per say, but the will give you more details on it once we finalyze every thing.

And its a good point being a NPO is helpful.

I think some people have already sent a check,
but I post here to encourage other people.

Even though Core Action Team are working on additional payment methods,
currently sending a check is only option.
But it's month end now, so I think you have some chance to write checks.

Excellent sentiments! :) My congratulations to you! If only more people follow your lead, we will definitely be making a huge difference.
