Immigration Question to the Experts

My question is somewhat specific to my situation, so please be patient..

My wife and I are Palestinian refugees and we got our Green Cards this December, based on my employment based I-485 application. We both have "Travel Documents for Palestinian Refugees" issued by Egypt. These documents are very difficult to travel with in the Middle East and It is near impossible to get a visitor visa from the country that we want to travel to because of the fact that we hold such Travel Documents.

And my question is:

Is there a way for me and my wife to apply for U.S. Travel Documents, based on the above described situation? I know that there is an application for a " Refugee Travel Document ", but We did not get our Green Cards based on our Refugee Status...

I would highly appreciate your help..

I131 allows you to get a travel document if you do not have a passport.
Please read instructions attached to this form (look at INS site and immihelp.com).

Just curious: were you residing in Egypt without Egyptian passport/citizenship?

Thanks for the help

Are you sure I131 can be used for this? I read the form instructions and it looks like that one has to be in refugee status (in the U.S. that is) to obtain such a document...

I was born in the UAE... I never resided in Egypt in my life.. When I came to study in the U.S., I lost my residency status in the UAE since I was required to go to the UAE every six month to renew my residency there, which I could not afford at the time.

Reentry Permit (i.e. not for refugees) : Lawful permanent residents or conditional permanent residents ... A Reentry Permit is also issued to Lawful Permanent Residents who want to travel outside the United States, but cannot get a national passport from their country of nationality. A reentry permit is valid for two years
