Immigration Bill Fails Again!

F1s becoming Residents through marriage

I object to the way myredskins portrays people who marry in the US and then file for permanent residency. I married my boyfriend of three years four months after graduating from college. I applied for residency seven months later.

I did not marry him so that I could become a resident. I would have married him no matter what.

After I graduated, I took part in the Optional Practical Training program for graduates, allowing me to work full time for one year. By the time that year had expired, I had another work permit. I did everything I could to maintain legal status, spending my money, my parents' money and my husbands money in order to do so.

Our resentment at some of the proposals in the immigration bill stems from our efforts to maintain legality, many of which go far beyond "hussling" to get hitched to an American.

And you know what I would have done if I'd not been to marry an American? I would have gone home. Just like the law would have required me to.

My point was that the line between legal and illegal is very fine in some cases. You might have folowed the law, but for every person that does, there are others that abuse it too, but its hard to say who does and who doesnt.
