immigration amnesty for kids

I have heard that the Senate Judiciary Committee has approved a proposed law giving green cards to children on the condition that they earn a college degree or serve in the armed forces. The proposed law now goes to the full Senate for review.

So if this Bill were to become a law it would allow international students who have lived in the US for atleast 5 years and got their bachelors degree by the age of 21 to adjust to LPRs? If this is the case they should rename this Bill to "Child Prodigy Bill."

And the proposal on allowing foreign kids serving in the US miliary to become LPRs conflict with some existing military protocols. The current enlistment policy of the US Military requires foreign nationals to have atleast a green card to join the services. On the enlistment form there are only two options given for your residency status: US Citizen and PR. If you're neither and chose one of them you're basically committing perjury to the US government. So even if you managed to join the military by falsifying your immigration status and apply for LPR under the DREAM act ( which is yet to become a law) the military can still persecute the person for lying to them. I think before they can allow non-LPR or non-US citizen kids serving in the military to adjust to LPR under the DREAM act the Commander in Chief (the Pesident) needs to declare general amnesty first so that the military doesn't have a problem with that.

NO. THEY MUST HAVE ENTERED BEFORE THEY WERE 16. IT IS MAINLY FOR CHILDREN OF UNDOCUMENTED HOUSEHOLDS.

ACTUALLY THIS BILL WOULD GIVE AN INSTANT GREEN CARD TO CHILDREN WHO MEET THE REQUIREMENTS. WITH THIS GREEN CARD THEY CAN JOIN THE MILITARY WITH NO DIFFICULTY AT ALL.

AS AN ASIDE, ONE GUY FROM SEATTLE JOINED THE ARMY LAST YEAR ON A FAKE GREEN CARD AND THEN SERVED IN IRAQ. HIS FRADULENT GREEN CARD WAS RECENTLY EXPOSED. THE MILITARY HAS DECIDED TO WITHHOLD PROSECUTION AND ALLOWED THE GUY TO APPLY FOR IMMEDIATE CITIZENSHIP PURSUANT TO THE EXECUTIVE ORDER. THOUGH THE MILITARY ALSO SAYS THAT IT WILL NOW CHECK IMMIGRATION DOCUMENTS MORE CLOSELY IN THE HOPE THAT SUCH FRAUD WILL NOT RECUR.

I agree with Gilbert. Under the current laws it's a NO. But if the Congress issues the general draft (like they did back in Vietnam) then every capable men who registered with the Selective Service become eligible for the military service. Now , issuing a general draft is a very sensitive political issue and most administrations want to avoid it at all cost after Vietnam. But right now the military only accepts US Citizens and LPRs as enlistedmen and ONLY US Citizens for officer recruitments. Air Force has an additional requirement and that is you have to have a GC that is atleast valid for 2 years. And for all 5 branches of the military non-citizens can only do jobs that doesn't require "security clearance."

But now in the DREAM act that is yet to become a law, they are proposing that kids who entered this country when they were 16 and got their HS diploma from a US school be allowed to join the military for 2yrs as a way to earn their LPR status. There are a lot of so called "green card soldiers" serving in the US military overseas and the government thinks they're doing a "good job." So I suppose they want to see more GC soldiers in the military.

Of course there are illegal and risky ways for immigrants of other categories to join the military the dishonest ways. But I'm not gonna discuss those things.
