My mom's Immigrant Visa was issued in December. She has not entered the U.S yet and her visa will be expiring in June.

She might not be able to travel for a few more months. I've asked around and everyone says she MUST enter the States before her visa expires and there is no way of getting an extension on it.

I e-mailed the Embassy and they got back to me today and this is what they said

"Please note that there is no extension for this kind of visas. If the applicant fails to travel before the expiry of the visa he/she must return to the embassy on any working day at 10am and we will speak to consular officer to issue you a new visa."

So, since e-mails are checked and replied by clerk, I'm not sure how accurate the answer is.

Has anyone here has come across IV expiration issues???

If she is unable to ship or sell off all her stuff before June, she can still leave everything behind and come to the US for a few days with the immigrant visa to gain admission as a permanent resident, and then return to her country to finish up everything.

Also remember that it is not necessary to come to the mainland US. If Hawaii is more convenient and affordable to fly to, she can go to there instead.
