immediate family

hi,

i have a question related to an a1-visa and the term "immediate family".
would the spouse of a diplomat's son be eligible for an a1-visa and thus be recognized as "immediate family"?

that is what i thought. however, the diplomat's 21-year old married son did get an a1-visa. it'll be interesting to find out what type of visa the son's wife will get ...
