Illegal USCIS hiring practies under Gonzales reign

Aren't we getting our Gonzalez's mixed up? I mean, one is Alberto Gonzales (with an s at the end) who was the attorney general, and another one was Emilio Gonzales (with a z at the end of the name) who was the USCIS director.

THe relevance here will be the fact that AUSA and immigration judges hirings were also affected by this politicizing. So if the USCIS makes a bad decision and you appeal to an immigration judge, you could unfortunately end up in front of someone who is not only qualified but may be pro USCIS.
So you pay taxes to the government who turns around and gives a you no justice thanks to politics

Alberto Gonzales was the US attorney General and as such he was ultimately responsible for enforcing USCIS laws. His department was responsible for hiring immigrant judges for BIA, so DOJ hiring practices affected the way USCIS immigrant policies are ruled by those judges.

Bobsmyth,

In that regard you are correct :) One way or another, we have had over a decade of mostly anti-immigrant measures.

Most judges do have leanings towards one idealogy or the other, you just have to look at the Supreme court. As long as they can handle cases impartially, that will be the deciding factor.

But I have read in the paper about some being super strict and leading to a lot of harsh penalties and rulings.

The question here isn't if judges lean towards one ideology or another, but rather that the DOJ hiring practices heavily favored judges with a conservative ideology, something that is clearly illegal.
