you can buy whatever you want but some banks might not give loan (especially loans on investment property) unless you are an immigrant but most of them dont bother, If you are buying for cash you can buy whatever you want. Thanks
 
it will become another source of earning, but h1 as far as i know does not allow a second source of income. i am not clear on thi, hence the topic
 
you can always invest on anything even if you are h1b, like people invest in stock and report income on stock you can report you earning as capital gains, On h1b you cant work for anyone except the sponser but you can always invest.
