have been told by my lawyer if you filed 485 after they become current for everyone, you end of spending 2 years in adjustment status.
INS does not even look at cases until they process 97,98 EB3 PD cases first and then proceeds.
This will impact severely for people whose PD falls in 1999 afterwards.

well, i don\'t know if that\'s true

i have seen whole bunch of approvals recently from ND march to june and its slowly getting closer to july(when all PDs had become current). and i believe this trend seems to continue like that. also, from what i know EB numbers are not significant for 485 processing. if you want you can check the site maintained by PCee and you will see that lots of EB3s are receiving FPs as early as 2 months from the notice date.
i think INS is pretty fast these days...

Your Lawyer IS Crazy!!

Once you file for I-485 EB categories do not matter until your category\'s Priority Date remain current (or ahead of your PD). As long as that is true, all EB categories are processed in the same manner.

Also, all EB categories are expected to remain current till Sept 2002. Even then, they will probably slip 1 year or so. You should still be fine as long as you filed around Sept 2001.
