Hello

I have 485 application pending as I am stuck in name check since Sep. 2005. If I lose my job now what are my options.

How long I have to find other job before I am out of status?
How long I can stay in this country?

As long as you are pending I485. You are in status. Be careful, when they are approving your GC, you must on a full time job that must be similar to your I140 quoted.
 
As a rule of thumb , if your I-140 is approved, and it has been 6 months after you have filed for I-485 you are free to change jobs.
Just ensure that you have an EAD, make it a point to renew it yearly and apply for renewal at least 3-4 months in advance.
Yes , try to ensure that you work in the same or similar field.

I survived the layoff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hopfully 485 will approved before the next round come next year....
