I had my h1b approval notice valid upto sept 2009 and h1 visa was issued
in my passport in mumbai upto sept 2009

when i entered in oct 2006,the inspecting immigration officer at jfk
stamped i94 upto sept 2008 as my passport was valid upto sept 2008

now I have got my new passport and I need to get my i94 -with the sept 2009 date

what are the different ways to get this done
appreciate your experience if any one had similar issue

The best approach would be to travel abroad, and obtain a new I-94 (during re-entry) based on the visa stamp on the old passport and extended validity of the new passport.

I really did not go out of the country
I went to JFK airport --being the port of entry
and enquired with immigration authorities
they directed me to immigration office located
in terminal 8-AA ARRIVAL .It is difficult to locate
but it is called Deferred immigration inspection office
I went and gave my passport old and the new along with I94
and they did it in 15 minutes and gave me a new I94
with dates in line with I797 and visa -as i had new passport

It will be advisable to go to the respective port of entry
thaty will be easy

That's a cool way! In my post I suggested to cross the US border by road take a u-turn and get the I-94 stuff done at the immigration office.

Thanks for posting.
