I noticed that my attorney filled my I-485 little late from the date my H1 visa expired. actually less than a week. Can you please let me know if there is any rule that specifies when can I-485 can be filled after H1 expires. Will this be a problem at 485 interview, can we rectify this now. please advise
 
well, unless you filed your 485, you wouldn't have had an ead card. So if your H1 expired before you got your ead card, that means you were working for a couple of months (I'm assuming) without a valid visa.

If it gets noticed when your 485 comes up for review, they will probably send you an RFE asking you for proof of status. Consult a good immigration attorney about what needs to be done!
 
Did u file renewal of H1? If not do it. Also if not allready take EAD.

I don't mean to alarm you but without EAD & H1 your employment is illegal.
 
Guru Question

Does one need to have an extended H1 in hand or is the filing of the H1 extension good enough to work (given that the H1 is about to expire and there is no EAD in sight) ?

I personally do not have this concern, but a friend of mine wanted to know these details.
