I485.....what is the sequence after you file?

Hi folks...
it seems that after you file the i485 no-one really knows exactly what happens in INS to take so long. Is it background checks? And if so, what all do they check? I assume they check any criminal records at all the places you stayed at etc etc. Also, is there an interview required for I485 filed through service center?

After 485???

The major reason for longer time for processing is that your file has not be seen by an officer. That is all. Once it is "assigned" to an officer it will be acted upon very soon. Till then your case is waiting in the queue that is all...

What sort of background check does INS run and what is the purpose of the biographic sheet? does it go to every court in the jurisdictions u stay in? or is it to get police clearances?
