I485 approved according to website but have not received official notice yet. Do not have travel parole or stamp in passport. Leaving for the UK Sunday. What problems if any will there be upon reentering the US?

Dont Travel

don't travel. you will have problems at poe on the way back..........
Try the local INS office for stamping and then leave ONLY with I-551 stamp.

Any idea what kinds of problems I would have????
U'll not be allowed to enter on ur visa if they find out that ur 485 is approved.
Did u get approval notice in the mail or just online confirmation? Some people
have opinion that unless u get paper approval u r not officially approved for GC.
I advise u dont take chances and have ur PP stamped once u get paper approval.
U can also check with local office for stamping

Do not leave without your valid AP or I-551 stamp on passport. Please postpone your flight plan to a month because you could receive your approval notice up to 3 weeks. Please make a plan to set up an appointment (INFOpass) with BCIS officer for stamping.

****** Do not Leave USA until you get stamp on your passport. You cannot apply for a new AP since you are already approved. so only three things are to wait for your approval notice, get stamp on your passport, and then have fun on trip to UK. ******

I wonder why you didn't have AP before your gc approval. You should have applied for an AP before.

If you attempt to return to USA from one of foreign countries without a valid AP or I-551 stamp on your passport, you will maybe pay fine and you will be returned to wherever you come from or they will take you to the detention center and you will then be placed on the flight back to your home country. Also your gc would be abandoned. You will be barred for 3 years or 5 years for entering USA illegally without AP or stamp. (I think) so Don't leave.

Good News!

Thanks for your replies. Got the passport stamped yesterday and then unbelieveably recieved Green Card today! Now can travel to UK with no worries! :)

Hi Kennedsa, which office did you go to? Did you get stamped without inforpass appointment? Did you just go there with you email approval notice? I'm in a similar condition. Email approval on 12/15 and had flight booked on 12/19. Currently no infopass available in Newark. So I was thinking about going there directly with email print-out. Did you do the same thing to get yours stamped? Thanks for your kind response.

Where did you get all these information - "detention", "3-5 years bar" etc? Any reference?

It is impossible to get a 3 year bar unless you have accumulated 180-365 days of illegal presence. There is no other way to get it.

The five year bar is if you are placed in expedited removal. I don't think it's likely that such a thing would happen; one should clearly indicate at the POE that one has an approved GC. All the I-551 stamp does is provide some evidence of this status, but by itself it is not authoritative and the POE must look you up in the CLAIMS system to verify this. Theoretically, they should be able to do this even without the stamp based on your A#. That's all the stamp has.

That being said, attempting to re-enter the US without the stamp or the plastic card can be a headache, and I would suggest that it should be avoided unless absolutely necessary.

Sorry to take so long with my reply, I just got back into the country.

Went to the Louisville, Ky office to get passport stamped. Was able to make an info pass appointment. Gave them a print out of my case status which said that case was approved.
