Why there is a wide difference in processing dates of INS Center and local center? Like mine is Newark, New Jersey local center. Dates of processing of I485 are mentioned as follows.

Vermont INS Center :10/22/2003
Newark, NJ center :05/03/2004
Current Priority Date :03/01/2002

My Priority date as per approved I140 is 11/15/2001, I485 Notice Date is 09/01/2004. If the priority date is considered my case should be taken up for processing. But I haven't received FPs so far.
Can anyone/attorneys shed some light on the meaning of different dates mentioned above.
Thanks in advance..

My understanding is employment-based I-485s are processed by national service centers (vermont, nebrask, texas, california), not by local INS offices/centers. Was your case transferred to Newark by Vermont Center? Which center approved your I-140?

Vermont Center approved I140

My I140 has been approved by the Vermont Center. Then what is the role played by local centers? Forgive me for my ignorance, I am just curios, since my Priority Date is 11/15/2001 and current priority date after retrogression is 03/01/2002, by now my case should have been taken up for processing. Am I right? Not received FP yet.
Thnx

Nope. Unless your case was explicitly transferred to Newark (and you'd know if it was) you should only look at the VSC processing times.

Thanks TheRealCanadian for your info. In that case, the Vermont Center shows the current processing date with receipt notice date as October 22, 2003 where as retrogression priority date is March 01, 2002. My priority date is Nov 15, 2001 and I 485 receipt date is Sept 1, 2004. Do you think my case should be taken up for processing if we take priority date into cosideration. Please some one let me know how the process goes. Sorry for my ignorance.
I am a bit frustrated.

Local offices mainly process family-based cases. They only process empolyment-based cases tranferred to them by the national service center. Did you send your I-485 to Vermont (which was then tranferred to Newark)?

First they consider Processing date of Vermont Center --- If it cross your Receipt date ...then comes into Picture The Priority Date.....

At this time, if the PD is not current or not crossed your PD, then they will not take up your file. It will go into dust....

But if the PD cross your PD then your file(485) will be considered to be processed.

Wait for FP notice....then your chances will be high to get 485....
