i485 Pending status-Please help

My friend's wife is canadian landed immigrant.My friend is citizen of USA. His wife came to USA before 9-11 and there was no need of visa at that time to come to USA. She had approved i130 & i485. She went for interview & stamping for i485. Immigration officer asked for i-94 but when she came to USA there was no need for visa & they newer issued i-94. Immigration officer wrote i485 pending in passport and told that they will verify the rules at time she entered to USA. Please help us in this situation as precaution & any other suggestion. They did not give any date for next interview or reply.
 
I was a Canadian landed immigrant as well and now Citizen. "Pstalsania" you are right, before March 2003 they were no restrictions of US visa for landed immigratant for Canada. I have travelled many times between USA/Canada and was never issued I-94. She should have told the officer that she came to USA before 9/11 and better yet should took some printed article at the Interview to show him what she is talking about. Currently Canadian citizen do not require US visa now. I will have my AOS interview next week. I will let you know how it went.
