My case details are as follows:
PD 01/21/02
EB2(India)
I-140 approval 05/04/05
I-485 RD 05/07/04
1st FP 06/21/04
2nd FP 02/01/06

My case was pending for name check for a long time. My local congressman finally confirmed that the name check was completed on 02/21/06. April 06 onwards, my PD was current and so I contacted the USCIS and I was told that my case was pending some security checks. I again contacted my local congressman and they have confirmed that the name check was indeed completed in Feb06 but my case file in in the security area from March 30, 2006 onwards. What does this mean ? Is there some extra security check after name check clearance ?

vu0809, could you share some info about how you got response from USCIS cause my case is kind of similar and I got an email response from USCIS for my last inquiry saying "Service is waiting for VISA availability". I have been waiting for name check clearance for over 2 year, still not sure if it is cleared. Does USCIS now uses email rather than mail to respond inquiries? Thanks!

I got an email response from USCIS after I opened an inquiry. In fact, I received the email response the very next day after I opened the inquiry.

vu0809, thanks. It happened to me exactly the same. I am still waiting for my senator's office about my Name Check status. From time to time, USCIS is quite creative in a way responding inquires, we then show slow to adjust. Good luck to you.

Yes, this is IBIS (Interagency Border Inspection Systems) security checks. This kind of checks is faster compared to FBI name check.

Streamflow, thanks for the info. Do you have any idea how long the IBIS security checks normally take ?

IBIS is also associated with I-140, I-131 (AP), and I-765 (EAD). So we may suggest that it takes more less than one month (average processing time for AP and EAD). As I recall, IBIS is valid only for 35 days and for this reason USCIS initiates IBIS for I-485 again after NC cleared. However, some people in this forum reported that their I-140 (as well as I-131 and I-765) stuck namely due to IBIS (see threads for I-140). I think that delay due to IBIS is not a usual situation (unlike NC).

My congressman made another inquiry at the NSC to find out about my I-485. They were told that it is still in security process and it has been in that status since March 30. Wonder why it is taking so long - PD is current(Jan '02), name check has been completed in Feb '06.
