As my attorney has not received his formal copy of I140 approval notice, I used photocopies of my courtesy copy of the notice for my
   I485 filing. Does it work? Thanks!
 
Yes..

As long as the LIN # on the courtsey copy can be correctly referenced, your application based on it should be ok.
