I485 filed to NY office on 8/31/01, no receipt. Anybody know if my lawyer has filed to the wrong off

I work in NYC. My lawyer had a new assistant who filed my I485 to NYC local office on 8/31/01. I thought it\'s the Vermont office where my case i s supposed to be sent to. I made hundreds of calls and finally talked with an IIO in Vermont who told me that my case was never sent to their center. My checkes were cashed on 9/7/01. Since then I\'ve received nothing from INS. I should have never trusted my lawyer. Does anybody know if my lawyer sent my case to the wrong place?

Help, Please! I need your information, friends. Thanks in advance.

I had a similar case when I had incorrectly filed I-539 to extend my mother-in-law\'s stay. The entire package came back with a note to send it to Vermont. I sent the application to VSC. Later I got receipt notice and approval.
 
It should be VSC

Contact your bank and get the canceled check, INS will write the receipt number on the back of check. Call NYC INS office and enquire about your case. One of my friends case was like this , his lawyer filed the case in local INS office and he got GC. It took little more time. Your case should have been filed in Vermont, the lawyer did the mistake by sending it to local office, but INS will process your case.

thanks, i am really mad at my lawyer now. I\'m trying to find out what I can do next. the NYC IIO told me that\'s going to take 2 years to have my case processed. In vermont center, I believe it\'s taking less than one year now! I wonder if i should canceled my case with NYC and refiled everything to Vermont???
