I485 approved... but no notice or status change

My I485 (EB2, RD Sep 2002) was approved back in July, 2004 and I didn't know that up until last week! I or my attorney did not receive any approval notice at all and my online status did not change. Only last week when I came to know that USCIS has again opened access to Service Centers through phone, I called NSC and they checked their system and told me I was approved in July last year. They did not have any clue whatsoever why the notices were not sent or why the status did not get changed. There was no address change for me since I filed I485. They asked me to file I824, which I heard is taking approx 6 months to process. Then I went to my local USCIS office in Denver and explained them the situation, they stamped my passport after checking their system... without approval notice.

I wanted to share my experience and thank everyone in this forum for sharing their experiences. This forum and murthy.com are two simply the best resources for information on immigration matters.

Kudos to this forum… way to go guys!

All I can NSC is innovating new ways to screw applicants. How much does filing I825 cost, may be they haven't got enough money from you in AP, EAD filings yet.

Congrats!
Too bad NSC forgot to send you a notice. Its amazing that if you just call the 1-800 number they just to you to wait and wait, but one's case could have simply been sitting there mindlessly, and that's the unfortunate part. We never know if we can beleive the CSRs or not, most of the time we can't.

How do you go get your stamping done now? Will NSC send you a notice, or can you go without it?

Did you call the standaard 800 number to get access to the information? Congrats and enjoy the freedom.

Hi Congrats xyz7777!

It is good to hear about strange stories. NSC screw the process itself.

BTW: which number did you call to talk to local center.

The number I called was the same old National Customer Service Center number : 1-800-375-5283, but now they are redirecting your call to Service Centers in some cases. Read this article for more information :

Also, what I learned was that you don't need approval notice to get the passport stamping done, I still don't have one but they stamped my passport. I don't know if I would need that in future, I guess not (any insight from anybody?). Form I824 costs about $195 (+ attorney fee) and I am thinking of not filling it now just to get the approval notice.
