My friend received his I485 approval but not received the one sent to his attorney. He got stamped on passport. He wondered if he needs the one sent to attorney from INS - many people has that from their attorney.

Thank you

It's not necessary at all. The copy received by the applicant is same as the one received by the lawyer. It's a courtsey copy, showing that the applicant is welcome to be a permanent resident.

thank you

So my friend does not need to keep a copy? He made a copy of his approval notice and used original for stamp. Is he free or need do anything with attorney or INS?

Thanks

Your friend can make a copy for himself. If he is not comfortable still, then he can ask the lawyer. Lawyer's won't need that copy anyway once the close is concluded. Anyway, BCIS will mail a letter welcoming the new permanent resident, before mailing the plastic card.
