My wife has a copy of her BC and not the original. We are wondering if any point of time the original BC is required. Pls. share your experience on this matter.
Thanks,

I don\'t think this is a big deal.
If she doesn\'t have her BC, her parents can supply the affidavits stating the facts of her birth.
It\'s not an unusual thing.. my husband didn\'t have his BC, so he got affidavits from his parents.

Samyukta,

Has your husbands I485 been approved based on the affidavits ? Did he also submit a document from the muncipality saying his birth wasn\'t registered? I\'m in a similar position ( do not have BC) and any info you can supply would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Normally, INS just requires a copy to be filed. If you intend to submit affidavits, in that case you need a non availabilty certificate from the municipality of the town your wife was born in.
Since she has a copy, it means her BC is available. I would suggest you should try to get her original BC.
Its a very high probability that you\'ll never need original. But who can fathom the ways of INS. Just in case they ask to see original!
